Hi wah_on
It is nice to hear from you once again. Going through your post, I feel like asking you to make sure if you still have this debt on with Jefferson Capital. If that being so, then you can think about consolidating it by making less monthly payments with lower interest rates according to this program. That will be easier for you as it won't put much strain in your daily life. May I ask you the amount of your debt, so that you can choose the best program suitable to your needs and requisites?

|

Hi Guest,
Welcome to the forums. Your post says that your account is sold to Jefferson Capital, a collection agency. I will explain you here, how this process works.
The amount with your creditors is recorded as account receivable in the books of their company and is counted as an asset. When a credit card company is unable to collect the debt from you and thus stops all the collection efforts, it charges off the debt. Hence, it further allocated the debt to some collection agency that either works to collect the debt on behalf of the creditors or purchases the debt.
Now the collection agency after purchasing the debt, tries to recover the debt from the debtor. He will be calling the debtor asking for money and the original creditor will have no relation to this debt when it is sold to the collection agency. If the collection agency is working for the creditors, then they get a proportion of the debt as their share of profit.
You are required to pay this debt as it will be evaluated to judge your credit worthiness.
Your credit report will show the status of the original creditor as charged off. Also, subsequent collection accounts for the debt will be added to your credit history.
Since you have defaulted in your payments at regular intervals, your account will be added with financial charges and late fees which will increase the total amount of your debt.
The account in collections will remain in your credit file for 7 years from the date of original delinquency of the account. You are required to pay this debt in order to obtain new credit.
Regards

Hi hanshda
Welcome to the forums.
Have you contacted Jefferson Capital at the numbers listed at the top of this page?
It will be helpful to you if you contact at the customer care cell of Jefferson Capital and seek information about your accounts.
Also, you can pull your latest credit report from the three bureaus and see the status of the said account. Hopefully, your creditors might have updated your accounts.
Regards
Roxette

Each state has a statute of limitations for collecting credit card debt (in NC, for example, there is a 3 year statute of limitations...it starts from the date of the first missed payment and ends 3 years later). Even if you actually owed the money, if the statute of limitations has run out, no one can collect the money. If a collection agency tries to collect the debt after the statute of limitations has run out, all one has to do is inform them of this fact. If they continue to call/write about it, you can report them to http://www.ftc.gov as well as your state's Attorney General's Office. If you make a payment of even one penny, the statute of limitations "clock" starts ticking all over again. I know because I have checked with the FTC.

While cleaning up credit report. Saw a balance still due on a creditor. Checked my records and saw that acct paid in full thru Jeff Cap. If they don't answer phones how will my dispute thru Experian ever get answered or resolved? Thanks

Experian and the other two credit bureaus are responsible to present the actual picture of the consumers' credit in the file. This is according to the federal laws mentioned in the FCRA. If they don't correct the information with the companies after your dispute is found to be correct, you have a legal case against the bureau reporting incorrect credit history. Mark the item in error and dispute it in writing with the bureaus. They will have to fix up the errors and give you an updated copy. Send your letter through certified mail.

I never had account with fungerhut who reported me to Jefferson Capital.I called them about this before. They took off my experian report, but it is still on my equifax report. I called the same number I did the last time, now no one knows nothing. All I'm getting is that must be the old fingerhut and I don't have the number. This is a mess. I never had anything from them in the first place. The month and year they gave me and the address they gave me.I was living with my mom at the time and our house burnt down, so why would I need a stereo, when I had no place to put it.I was living with a neighbor who had a stereo.Even if I didn't burn down I already had a new stereo I bought from Wal-Mart what would I do with two.I just need the taken care of so this can get off all my credit reports. I think they don't want to be contacted if you ask me.I already called like 4 different numbers no help at all.
