Do you have your meals together?

The busy schedules in the city life are making people organized in every way. In the present times, you should also concentrate on strengthening your family relationships. Studies reveal the fact that stronger families spend most of their times together.

You can also involve yourself amidst your family by having meals together. Though some of us consider this to be old-fashioned activity, but if you really sit amidst your family, it has a lot of benefits in it.
If you eat with your family, you will be benefited in the following ways:

  • You will be able to have a strong communication and strengthen the bonds.

  • Your health will not deteriorate as you will be having more of nutritious food.

  • You can make choices for your favorite food.

  • You will be able to create family traditions.

  • Your children will keep thinking towards the positive direction.

  • Self-respect and respect for elders will come from within, thus you are less like to smoke, use drugs or alcohol. You will also not feel depressed and alone.

  • You will be able to teach your children the art of cooking.

What you are supposed to do as a family?

  • Start having dinners together with your children so that it becomes a habit when they grow up.

  • You might be busy with your schedules but give the family meals a priority. It can be anytime, be it lunch, or dinner or even breakfast. The key is that you are able to spend the time with your family.

  • When you are together, you should not get distracted. You can switch off the televisions, cell phones and other things that can divert you when you are into some serious discussions.

  • Your conversation with the family members should always be on a polite note. You need to give respect so that you can expect the same. Moreover, dinner table is not the place where you should conflict with each other. Your meal is an offering from God.

  • Don't make decisions thinking from your point of view only. Be in other's shoe also and think from that angle.

  • You can build the interest by involving every one in planning the menus, shopping for groceries. You will find other members purchasing groceries for you, helping you in setting the table, chopping the vegetables or any other things which can be helpful to you.

Remember, being the parents you can be a role model for your children and also for healthy eating.

Thanks Ben...a very important reminder, one of the things necessary for getting ahold of finances..life can be great with some time spent on being with family instead of trying to get them what they "want". Kids I mean...and you are so correct.. a dinner together every nite is worth more to them than many things...

Thanks for this post Ben..I am a single parent but did notice that if the kids sat down to dinner by themselves while I was out trying to catch up on something else, they definitely had something to say about it. I am on the go all the time, but it's one time that we always do try to be together. And though I've got them involved in everything possible, it seems that they like it best when we can just hang out together.

Yeah I have 5 neices and nephews and usually while the adults play cards...the kids will make up a play and perform it for us...or make up a song and sing it. They love the attention. And we also have these intense games of texas hold'em and pitch. Its a lot of fun. Family is great.
