Anthony,

I apologize to you. I know that Bass & Associates collects for internet lenders. I had my own experience with them. I was simply asking a question. I enjoyed reading the article you posted in this thread. It seems you are hell bent on taking them down. I have filed complaints against them myself for their fdcpa violations. Chasity, internet lending is illegal in North Carolina. Yes, you can let them know not to contact you at work or home. If you don't, they will harass you like crazy. This is simple truth. They cannot throw you in jail. That is simple nonsense and scare tactic. What companies are you dealing with? This way someone can better direct you where to file complaints and seek more information.

I took out a payday loan from Cash Zone and was unable to pay them back...I wanted to make arrangements on the three hundred dollars, but they have now turned it over to Collections Agency or loan enforcer....A man called me at work and stated he was from NSF Checks and if I did not agree to meet his courier within twenty four hours with 400.00 he was going to take me to jail for Theft By Check...He would give me any details on these fees but states he represents Cash Zone which is here in Texas...What is your advice?

Hi Skeeter,
You have the right to ask for validation of this debt--that is, having the company prove in writing that the debt is yours. They also need to give you an address to send the money to. The next time they call, ask for it to be validated or for an address that you can send a written request to. Keep us posted, OK?

I'm writing to tell you that legal mediation practice had threatned me with jail because of a check I had supposedly sent to a payday loan company. They also said it was because I had sent a check that was on a closed checking account. Firat of all there was never a check sent to any internet payday loan site and secondly my checking account is not closed it is just in the neg. They just keep saying this won't be a slap on the wrist, and good luck. Don't let these scare tactics work on you. I ain't sending them shit.

Great question! The answer and any collector who calls you at work or harasses you at work it violating Federal Law. A collector can call to verify your employment, but when A collector calls continuously to collect on debt and is putting your employment in jeopardy you should simply ask for the name of the person calling and what company he is with. Then, simply say you are violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by harassing me at work. I have records of all your calls and if this continues I will contact your state Attorney General and seek legal counsel. These Collection agents are preying on you not knowing your rights and trying to catch you at an awkward time to collect a payment so he/she and his/her company can keep cash flow coming in. Most of the time they only get paid by a % of what they collect from you. If you get behind on debts you should contact a reputable company for professional Advice and counsel. It is very easy to get into debt, but a lot harder to get out and keep in mind you are not alone.

What if you are already making payments to them, can you have them stopped? They did their scare tactic to me and I fell for it--what a doofus. I am not sure if the loan is legit or not because I did take out payday loans several years ago and did have issues paying them back. I thought I had paid everything back until I got this phone call a couple months ago and this guy said everything to me that has been listed above--so like an idiot, I scheduled payments to pay them back. I asked for proof of this debt and he just yelled at me more and made more threats. Should I stop the payments being made to them and ask them to verify the debt or not receive anymore money from me? If I owe the money, I want to pay it back but I am not even sure I owe the money!

Who is threatening you? Nobody is going to come and take you to jail for a debt. That is illegal for them to threaten you with that.

They are not going to areest anybody. A debt is a civil matter not a criminal offense. So they are full of hot air

Now who is the CA collecting for? if it is an Illegal PDL they can go shove it.
