This appears to be oxford calling my home as well in FL and they do not stay on the phone long. Most of those people are trying to get money for a contract they purchased. Just tell them you are recording the phone call and they will hang up!

Shirley, cover your basis and everything will be fine. This isn't the silence before the storm. Probably, this might be the end of the repeated calls coming at your end without any legitimate purpose.

When a company hires a 'debt collector' they CONSTITUTIONALLY forfiet their rights to that debt. You dont owe the debt collection company a red cent. You dont even have to communicate with them.

The simplest way to get rid of them is to INSIST they give you ALL of their contact information and then send them a certified letter requesting all the phone calls stop and everything be in writing from that point forward.

If they furhter insist on calling you can report them then to the Federal Trade Commision for harrassment.

This process has worked for me in the past and the unsecured debt gets written off.

(This obviously doesnt work if its a service youre curently using or its a debt with security attatched. ie collateral)

Duke: It's true that you don't owe to the collection agency. But as your creditor has hired them to collect the debt on their behalf, you're supposed to pay them. If the collection agency is walking along the legal path, there's no harm in contacting with them.

However, if you wish to deal with the original creditor only, you can, but it seems from your post that you're more willing to get it written off anyhow

You first have to list your number so they do not call, after 31 days you can complain about this number or any that you have had problems with. I just left a complaint. I had asked him to stop calling and continues to call. Hope this helps

Shirley;
Its not that they can legally get away with calling by using these numbers. It is just that the burden of proof will be on you and you need to decide how far you are willing to take matters. If you fell it if worthwhile to pursue then you will likely need to contact your phone service provider and work with them ti identify and track the call. Explain your are receiving harassing calls and need to identify the caller for further legal action.

Its not that they can away with it because it s automated, (keep in mind everything thing done by a computer has a record somewhere), it's a matter of how much effort are you willing to expend to stop it?

I just had one of the gentlemen from the company "Oxford Financial" call and wanted to talk to me, well there is two Charles' in the house and he got irate when I asked which one he wanted to talk to...well long story short, he was very beligerant and called back when I told him to stop calling. When he called back he said "this nigger is f****ing your wife!" If anyone can get some info on this company and where they are I just might open a suit against them for harrassment!

Hi Shirley and everyone else that has inquired about this 866-822-6756 number that is calling and leaving a different call back number: That number belongs to Oxford, a collection agency. They were calling my 15 year old daughters cell phone sometimes as much as 4 times per day. We tried to put a block on her cell, but they continued to get through anyway (and even Sprint can't explain how this is happening). I did call them back today (the number the call from is always busy) and stood on hold until I got a live person. I asked his name (Mike Jones...I am sure it was made up) and what company he was with. He told me Oxford Management. When I asked for the address, he inquired as to why. I told him because they were calling my 15 year old teenage daughters cell phone several times a day and at the age of 15, the only person she owes money to is her mother. He asked for cell number and looked it up on his system and confirmed that they were in deed calling her. They then confirmed her name was not that of the person they were trying to reach and assured me she would be removed from the call list immediatly. I guess we will find out if that it true. What bothers me is that he was reluctant to give out the address...if they are ligit, then why are they so affraid of giving out the address?

Kellye, send a cease and desist letter and stop them from calling you further in legal terms. If you don't know the address to contact the company, take help of the bureaus. They must be having the details about the company. Or you can take help of your phone company and get the number fully blocked.

Well the company that is listed in my head line is the one who keeps calling my home and they either call them selves Oxford Finacial services or Oxford Management. When I use my caller ID and call the number back it is always busy. This company never has sent any mail or hard copy letters of who they are trying to recover the debt for or why they are calling. All I get is Harassing phone calls to me, my parents and some times my friends. If in deed this company is in New York and could be traced, then it needs to be reported to the Government. Just remember that noone here has a contract with them and you do not owe them any money.
