Found the owner of 866-866-6756 thru tollfreenumbers.com. Belong to MCI... I also have been receiving many of these same calls the past two weeks. So decided to look-up. The calls were made to my cell phone.

I am on the do not call registry since they started it, and it works, phone calls are way down. I answered and spoke to someone a few months ago from this number, and told them their call is illegal, to never call again or legal action would commence. The calls stopped, but then just 2 days ago I had another call, and when I call back it is constantly busy. Do not know what they do. They state in the message, "This call is important. This call is not a solicitation." Its BS.

I got through to the number after a 5 minute wait. I asked to whom I was speaking, and spoke with a Barbara McLeod.
I was very polite and gave the phone number she called, and she asked if I was a Mr Carlos Melina, I said "No." "Sorry then we have the wrong number" she said. I asked her what her firm was, she refused, I asked to please remove my number, as this was not the first time they called and she actually said, "We have the wrong number. What's your problem. Get over it", and hung up.
I phoned again. Reached Joseph who answered "Oxford Management". Gave him my number, and he did not have a record of it, good, the last agent took it out of the system. I told Joseph I am recording this call, is that OK? Answer, No, it is not, Sir. I said that I am confirming that he has taken my number xxx-xxx-xxxx out of the system, and he said recording the call is illegal, and I said we will take that up with the judge, and he hung up.

Robert

35 states in US allow recording of the phone calls without taking other party's consent. If you are one of the residents of the remaining 15 states, you have to take permission from the other party before recording the phone calls. Check the consumer protection office in your state and know the existing laws regarding recording of the debt collection calls.

I work at an HR office at a university. We closed for two weeks at Christmas and when I got back there was at least 15-20 voicemails from this company. I finally actually answered the phone last week and held to find out what they wanted. When they came on the line, they asked for a specific maintenance employee. I began to explain (quite calmly) that this was a number for HR and that the department that this employee works for does not take messages for their employees and could they please take my number off of his record. In the middle of my sentence, I realized that woman had hung up on me!!

The calls have continued, so today I did a search and found this thread. I guess there's nothing much I can do.. this is a business number so I can't enter it in to the do not call registry and I really don't have time to threaten legal action and such.

KC,

Contact your phone company and get this number blocked. If the number gets blocked, you won't receive any disturbing calls from them.

I have been getting calls from this number as well - same scenario - it's always a recording claiming a "personal business matter." Aside from the fact that I don't see how it could be both personal and business-related at the same time - I have no idea who they are or why they're contacting me. I tried redialling, but get a busy. I'll be contacting my telco to see if they can give me more info or block the number. BTW, these calls started a couple of weeks ago.

Sent an e-mail to several of the company's execs - Patrick Pinto called me back (from a blocked number). He promised to look into the matter and either call my back or have one of his employees call me back. I will post more info as I have it.

Called my cell phone provider (Cingular) to ask how they can help with the calls. They said they can neither block the number nor help filing a complaint. All they offered to do was change my cell phone number (which, btw, has now been added to the do not call registry).

Wait, time out. How did they get your cell phone number?? My calls have been coming to my home only, not my cell phone. Oh, I really would be raising hell if they were calling my cell phone and possibly using my minutes. I only let friends and family have my cell number, I would be furious if collectors started calling me on it. DId you put that number as a point of contact on something? or have you called them from this number? cause they do have caller ID.
I called a creditor once on my cell phone and they called me back on it the next dayand I was shocked at how they got my cell number (I had forgotten that I called them on my cell) and they told me they had caller ID and was calling me back from the number on it. I told them NOT TO CALL ME ON THAT NUMBER again and they did respect that. CA may be a different matter. The calls to my home have stopped. THey either got the point, or they're passing the account on to someone else. Shirley

As far as I know, only my coworkers and a few family members have my cell #. It's a new number as of September 2005, so it's possible that they are calling for the last person to have the number.

I've never dealt with this company and I am not late on any payments, so I highly doubt they're actually trying to contact me. Which makes this all the more frustrating since they don't identify themselves or who they are trying to reach.

As of 14:15 EST, no call back from Patrick.

I sent another e-mail to Patrick Friday afternoon. He replied, saying that he was still researching the issue. Got a call Friday evening - I think it was a subcontractor for OMS - he said that my phone number had been listed on a document relating to another individual. He assured me that my number has been removed from their records. If I don't post again, it's safe to assume that I have not gotten any more calls.

MatthewM, after the company has notified you about the number being removed from their system, get it in writing as well. This will be an important proof of all the facts.

Good point - I'll send a "thank you" note Patrick asking him to confirm that it's been done.
