AT&T itself is a company that rips people off,so it is not suprising that they have this company collecting for them. I had a cell phone with them for 6 years, never changed my plan or had the need for a new phone. Then AT&T made me mad by 'slamming' my home phone long distance (changing my long distance to AT&T without my permission) which cost me over $400 in long distance charges, because I have unlimited long distance for $59.95 a month through my current service, so I never knew I was being charged for all my calls....long story short, I got mad and called to cancel my cell phone and get a new company. Well, they suddenly came up with this off the wall story that I had called the previous month and signed a new contract...why would I have done that? I had the same service for 6 yrs, why would I suddenly sign a new contract without changing my service, getting a new phone or anything. That made no sense. I told them I wanted proof that I signed a new contract. They said it was done verbally over the phone, so I asked for the recording of it. Their response was "not all calls are recorded". They said your bill has a disclaimer on it, and if you pay the bill, you are agreeing to their terms. You have to laugh at that. Anyways, it eventually went to that collection agency, who are a bunch of morons...called daily, said threatening things. That was before I knew my rights, so I paid them to get them off my back. But, I make sure I tell everyone I know NEVER to get AT&T for ANY reason!!! They are thieves. Sorry so long, just wanted to share my lovely story.

TMD, Palisades collections mostly purchases disputed bills from AT&T. I guess, there is something that both of these companies share with each other apart from making profit. AT&T makes disputed bills and Palisades applies illegal collection tactics on it.
Folks, be aware of your legal rights. No agency can take money from you till you are applying your knowledge. TMD, you handled AT&T so nicely that they had no other way but to leave you. I am just wondering what happened with you while Palisades called you up? Anyways, now that you are aware of what is right and what is wrong, no one can take money from you so easily.

Well, I disputed the bill, and never heard anything from AT&T for 6 months, then got a letter from Palisades and AT&T had added early termination fee of $175 plus some other stuff. The bill ended up being almost $400 total for the cell...not to mention the money I had to pay for my home phone, which I put a freeze on so now no company can change my service without a recording with me giving permission to do so...which I advise everyone to call their phone company and set up. AT&T is famous for slamming long distance customers. I reported it to an attorney that was working on a class action suit against AT&T, but that never went anywhere. I am more careful who I do business with now than I ever was before, and I never give anyone information like I used to..in fact my attorney told me to change my phone number and make it unlisted...which was very suprising. But, I did that. CA's seem to get the number anyway, but it is easier to know who is calling now though. Anyways, I have learned a lot from this site. I am on here everyday, usually find out something new. And, I know I am not alone....CA's have a habit of trying to make you feel so 'unique', like you are the only one they are having trouble with. LOL.

Bumper, you must send a copy of your dispute placed with Palisades to Equifax and explain their failure to validate the debt.
The CRA will run an investigation with the collection agency and if your dispute is found to be correct, the item will be removed from your file.
You must send your letter through certified mail / return receipt requested and keep everything documented in a file for records. The CRA will respond to you within 30 days. If they do not respond, you have to take steps in legal terms to get the item removed from your file.

I just was alerted to a change on my Equifax credit report. I am sending a validation letter to Palisades collection, and furnishing copies to the Attorney Generals office in my state, the Federal Trade Commision, and the New Jersey Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB has received nearly 80 complaints against this "company" in the past 12 months. Make sure you know your rights and use the information at your disposal.

Have you talked with AT&T regarding this bill? Since the collection agencies are changing hands, you might like to resolve this matter directly with the OC. If this account has not been sold to outside CA, you can still make payment arrangements with them.
It is the usual practice that AT&T will send the bills to Palisades for collections. They do not sell the accounts to them, so you can possibly make some arrangements on your accounts with them.
If you are unable to track any legitimate information from any of the CAs, dispute this item with the CRA. Show them proof of all the correspondences with all the companies and express your intention to pay the debt. Since the company with actual details of the debt has not contacted you till date, request them to do an investigation on this account and give you the results.

KEENIA, have you asked Palisades to validate the debt first before you make any payment? They will avoid legal actions if you are willing to pay the debt. But make sure that you have reviewed the account properly. Send a debt validation letter to the company's mailing address and request for the details.
Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. The company will sign the green copy and will reply with the details. If they fail to send it and you have a court hearing fixed, you can defend yourself saying that the company failed to give you the details of the account. This will cover your basis legally.

Maggie, do you have the payment receipts to prove that you paid this debt 3 years back? If you have this proof, I am sure you will hold a stronger side.
Ask the collection agency to validate the debt first. It is your legal right to know the details of the debt before you agree to pay them. Send your letter certified with return receipt requested. It is expected that Palisades will fail to give you the required info, so they will probably back off. Make sure that you have all your correspondences documented in a folder for records.

Ok so, I purchased a house in July 04 and the week of closing, I was told I had a collection from AT+T. I NEVER had an account with AT+T but I had no choice so I paid it and when I did, I thought all was done. Well was I wrong.... I just recieved a letter from True Logic Financial and they are saying that I owe over $300. I have contacted all four companies and no one seems to be helping. At+T says they do not know me since they were bought over by Cingular, Cingular can not find me in their system, Palisades does not know me either and True Logic is saying they can not help me without a letter of confirmation from Palisades that the account was paid. I have a copy of the canceled check, but of course, no letter was sent to me by anyone, even after requested. I am pulling out my hair!! What do I need to do to get this to go away?

Knine22, when you never had an account with AT&T, why did you pay anything to the account kept in front of you? You should have disputed with them right there and avoided all these tensions that are building now. Besides, no company will be able to give you any information because you didn't have account with them. At this stage, you will have to contact Palisades and know how they used your money. Do you have any payment receipts from them?
As True Logic is contacting you to pay this debt, ask them to validate the account first before you make any payment agreement. They must prove that they are collecting on some account that has some validity. Without any papers given to you about this account, you can refuse them to pay anything.
Send a debt validation letter to True Logic requesting for the details of the account. And, send a letter to Palisades requesting how they have used your money. Also, check the latest copy of your credit report and see if any of the company has hit your file.

The account I had was with MCI and I had closed it before AT+T bought them over. AT+T charged me for service with them I never had. I paid the amount discovered on my credit report to the company reporting on my credit at the time because we were closing on our house and we did not have time to dispute it.
As of today, Palisades is saying that they can not find me in their system as owing or paying on an account. The only reciept I have is from my bank showing money was taken out and sent to Palisades.
I will send the recommended letters. Thank you!

Knine22, you have the bank statements to prove that Palisades has taken out money from your account. On the basis of these charges, you can take the help of your attorney.
Do you have anything to prove that you were not using the services offered by MCI and AT&T has charged you incorrectly for it? Your dispute at the first time would have been really helpful but I can understand that you were closing on your house and did not have much time.
I think you should look for some legal help because you are not getting the details of your payments made to Palisades. Though I am not sure but they might have tried to pocket your money. So you should look towards the legal path.
