You'll find a boilerplate debt validation [DV] letter in the do-it-yourself section of this site. The link for that section is at the top of this page, center.

CRA = Credit Reporting Agency or Consumer Reporting Agency. Also called a credit bureau [and many less-complimentary things...] The big 3 CRAs are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.

How much have you overpaid this company? Did you report them to the BBB and your AG. The cost of a lawyer may well excede what your refund should be.

Palisades collection also purchased a debt from AT&T that was in my name. The company promised coverage in an area where there was none (the new area I moved to) and I returned the phones. The agent (at a costco type place) said he would let me out of the contract and gave me the paperwork. (this paperwork was later lost in a fire.) THREE years later (after the statute of limitations had run out for collection in NH, Palisades decided to try to collect- via the court system. I found this address today because I knew someone who attended court a couple of weeks ago and my name was called- on behalf of palisades- who requested an arrest warrant be issued. And it was. I never received any statement, nothing from them. I also contacted my family attorney immediately after they called and threatened me and he said "don't worry about it. It's been more than three years."
Since I missed the court date, now they have their judgement, and I either pay or apparently go to jail. Guess I should have found this site earlier. I was just looking for their address. Bunch of freakin snakes.

Just go to the circuit court (or small claims depending on what court type it was tried in to begin with) clerks office and request a copy. There may be a processing fee but it should be minimal.

Send them a copy of the document when you receive it and keep your copy for your own records. I would recommend utilizing some type of filing system for important documents such as these.

i pulled my credit report to find a bill be handled by palisades as well but to my surprise the bill belongs to my ex-husband in another state. They say I still have to pay it. And there current number is 1-800-873-5648. They said no use disputing it because he was my husband but the bill was after our divorce, Any suggestions?

If the bill was after your divorce, and your name is not on it, you have no liability and they are violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. They have no business discussing this debt with you, they are trying to get you to pay a debt they know is not yours.

Here's what I'm going to suggest you do. Send them a cease communications letter to them (telling them not to contact you at all) send it certified mail, return receipt requested. Then file a complaint with your state attorney general's office as well as the Federal Trade Commission.

My interaction with Palisades hasn't exactly been pleasant, but to be fair, it hasn't been awful, either...Until recently. I knew that the AT&T bill was mine from those bad bad college days, and have been working to get it off my credit report. Palisades agreed to let me pay it off in two payments, over two months. I've paid one, and happened to check my credit report again and noticed that on one reporter (Transunion), it's stated that over $300 more is due than on the other two (Experian and Equifax). I called Palisades and they said that this new number is correct and that I will need to increase my payment. This rings of outright fraud to me, but am looking for any other ideas on what could have happened, and how to deal with it.
