If it has already run the course of the 7 year reporting period then it needs to be removed. You can file a complaint with the FTC and your state Attorney General's office and you can also dispute it with the 3 credit reporting bureaus as well. If they will not comply with FCRA regulations then you can file suit for up to $1,000 per violation in addition to punitive damages per FCRA, even the 3 major credit reporting bureaus can be sued (they have been before and probably will be again)

The federal trade commission is www.ftc.gov
As for your state AG's office, what state do you live in?

I made the complaint with the attorney general's office and am sending a copy of the debt validation template you provided me with. How should I send them the letter?

hey , these jerks have been harrassing me for years on a account that was paid a long time ago. after several years you get a notice of money owed.i called them and had the proof of the paid account. then once again about 1 and 1/2 years later i check my credit report and bam, there it is $76.00 owed to pallisades collections for att wireless. it made my credit score go from fair to poor. im pissed, then i find a web site dedicated to exposing these scamsters. hey theuy hope you wont have your reciepts(and usually we dont when years have passed) and hope you will pay up. i my self will be getting a lawyer on these scum bags and you should too.

Welcome to the forum Mr. Detes, Mr. A.
Mr. Detes, you should send them a debt validation letter along with proof that you had paid the debt. You should also dispute the entries on your credit report as well, they cannot legally report invalid information per the Fair Credit Reporting Act. (under civil penalty of $1,000 per violation)

Mr. A., What collection agency has your account? If you can let me know I'll be more than happy to look up contact information for you for that agency.
