Palisades has been one of the most difficult companies that I have had to deal with. They don't even attempt to be civil much less be helpful in any way!

Ok... First of all I had an account with AT&T before they were bought out by Cingular, about 4 years ago. They claimed I owe them $140. Well, I had all my online bill statements proving that they in fact owed me $70 dollars because I had a credit on the account. I guess they didn't like that so they went all over the country trying to get that money from me. Each time I'd get a new collections letter I would send them copies of all the information concerning the AT&T account. They would in turn send me apology letters letting me know they were sorry and that the fault was in fact with AT&T.
Well, everything was fine for about two years and then all of a sudden my credit score dips down to 540 (it was at 680).... All because of Palisad Collections. I have NEVER received a letter from them, or an account number. And I think its pretty shady that they don't seem to have a website.

SO... If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate your help!

I have recently checked my credit report and shocked to fine that I have got two negative hits on my account in a month for an Altel Phone bill that was over seven years old. I have tried to call this company to work out a plan but they wanted my social security # before I would be allowed to talk with anyone. I was not certain that this company was an legimate company so I did not give it. I have not gotten any thing in writing from them but I continue to get negative hits on my account. Help!!!
What can I do?

Welcome to the community feedom.
First of all Palisades is a collection agency. They are a legally owned business but often step outside the bounds of federal statutes when it comes to conducting business, specifically the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

It has been deemed by the Federal Trade Commission staff that the act of reporting to a consumer reporting agency is indeed collection activity and may be construed as initial contact thus five days from said date they are required to send you the standard dunning letter informing you of the balance, who they are collecting for, a notice of your 30 days to dispute and the standard mini miranda. They have already violated the fdcpa by reporting and not sending you a dunning letter.

It also would appear that the account has been reaged if it is over seven years old and is still showing on your credit report as the Fair Credit Reporting Act allows for these trade lines to only report for 7 years plus 180 days. If this is the case then you certainly already have grounds to file civil action if you so desire. Statutory damages at this point seem to be about $4,000.

Palisades Collection Agnecy is very annoying. We actually settled back in 2003/2004. Paid up and and four years later they are trying to collect $50. Where the hell is this $50 coming from. No details to see and they are very demanding.

Like most people on this page...I found this collection agency reporting a Verizon acct. to the credit bureaus. I fought with Equifax 2 times and they stated that this agency "validated" the debt...in other words it was a legal obligation. I called the agency directly and found out that the Verizon acct. was set up at an address in a city where I NEVER EVER LIVED! On top of that, it was for 2003. Well, I went to prison in in 2000 and did not get out till late 2004 (that's a whole different story). The bottom line is, you should investigate their claims that the debt is yours...if it is...you are stuck! If not...demand an immediate deleation or file a small claims suit in your town aganst the original creditor and the collection agency!

I took the initiative to call this HORRIBLE collection agency to settle my debt. I told the telephone person that I could only pay $100.00 per month and that wasn't enough. They inisisted more. If I could have paid more I would have. Then the irate manager got on the phone and started an argument with me. She was so unprofessional, I hung up on her. I will not deal with these unprofessional people again. I will send my payment through the mail by money order. This is a horrible company and I will be calling the better business bureau on them immediately.

I paid my debt to them in full and they were rude even when I called to find out what their mailing address was to send the check. Out of the 11 collections that I had (and paid off in full) they are the ONLY ones who refused to remove themselves from my credit report, and they are STILL re-verifying with all 3 CRA's that I paid in settlement rather than paid in full. They have always been rude, completely unprofessional and they have (I hate to say it) the typical New Jersey/New York attitude. Don't expect ANY favors or even civility from them.

oh any yes I have a letter stating that I have Paid in Full, submitted it to all 3 CRA's, they all corrected it to say PIF in April, then in June it was re-verified by Palisades to say "Paid in Settlement" again because they said I DID owe more money in fees that they just "wrote off for me". I have sent the information in AGAIN, as well as to Pattenaude and Felix (the attorney for Palisades) and AT&T who was the original debtor. So fingers crossed that SOMEONE will fix it for good!

If you paid in full and they are reporting as settled in full then you can re-dispute based on that inaccuracy. I would dispute as "Multiple Inaccuracies" and make them verify every line on that tradeline. If you have the documentation to prove it and the don't correct it, file complaints with the BBB, AG's in both yours and their state, FTC, and if they are members, the ACA(They are BTW). Or you can just skip all that and send them an ITS with the first couple pages of the complaint. Give them 10 days to correct or delete and then sue their ****. If the CRA's call your dispute frivilous, then you can add them to the suit for willful non-compliance.

I am not normally the straight to litigation kind of person, but if you have paid in full, have the documentation to prove it, and they will not correct it, then that is deliberate credit report poisoning. You can't make them delete accurate information but you can make them report accurate information. Sometimes it takes a 2x4 and not kind words.

I just re-sent in the second round of proof day before yesterday ... do I have to wait for 30 days before I dispute again or can I act today?
