Jose, when dealing with any collection agency, ask them to validate the debt first. It is your consumer right to know the accurate details of the account before you make a payment agreement. Have you viewed your credit report and saw this account marked as 'paid' in your file? This is enough to prove that Palisades is lacking proper information and therefore, they must back off.

I was checking our credit reports today and saw Pallisades Collection agency listed in my potentially negative area. We received a notice from Pallisades in the fall for $231, which we know we owe from an AT&T cell phone. I can't find the notice and I want to get this monkey off my credit report. I have the Pallisades acct number from a credit report and an address. I'm scared to send them the money after reading all of these horror stories here and on other sites about Palisades. How should I send this money? Certified Mail? Cashiers Check? Personal Check? I don't want some other company coming after us somewhere down the line after I have paid for this already. Thanks for your help.

Elizabeth, each case is different when you are dealing with the agencies. Palisades has been reported with all the complaints that you read here. In your case, it seems that there is nothing to dispute on your account with Palisades over the AT&T bill. They have already sent you a notice about it. Write a letter to them explaining that you are sending your money through certified mail. After the account is paid in full, they are required to update your account with the OC as well as the CRA. Prefer to have it in writing. Since this debt is legitimate, you will have to pay it in any case. If there is a dispute, it can be resolved later.

I recently filed chapter 7 bankruptcy in Feb. 2005 and was discharged in June 2005. I applied for residency at an apartment complex and was denied due to incorrect reporting of my credit. It seems that Palisades Collections has reported an account that was discharged in my bankruptcy as being current. How do I get this removed from my credit report?

Hi Mandy

Welcome to the forums.

The credit bureau and the information provider are responsible for putting accurate data in your credit report. If there is any error, point it out in writing to the credit bureau. If you have copies to prove your dispute with valid reasons, send it along with your letter. Do not send the originals. Send your letters through certified mail with return receipt requested so that you have everything documented.

Once your dispute is received, the bureau will investigate the item with your information providers. They are required to verify the item within 30 days from the date they received your letter. The bureau will send the request to your information provider for verification. If they find that the item is incorrect, it will be updated with the other bureaus. You will receive a free copy of your report after the update has taken place.

Another move will be to report the creditor that you have disputed the following item. Send copies of your proof so that the disputed item can be verified.

Regards
Roxette

This is the letter I sent to the Bureau of Collections and to Palisades
I have enclosed the item above that I am disputing.
This item Palisades Collection Agency regarding At&t transferred/sold from Bureau of Collection Recovery Inc is inaccurate because I paid Bureau of Collection Recovery Inc on a settlement offer on 06-2005. After confirming with Bureau of Collection they stated they applied my payment to the wrong account which in the end cause them to transfer/sell my account to Palisades Collection Agency I am requesting that the item be removed to correct the information.
Enclosed are copies of documentation, such as payment from my checking account, settlement offer and the letter I sent to the Bureau of Collection supporting my position. Please reinvestigate this matter and delete the disputed item as soon as possible.
All I have been getting is the run around the first company is saying its still in review and I have not heard anything for Palisades.... any advise please I want this off my credit report...

Cmiller,

It seems that first you had a settlement with Bureau of Collection Recovery. You paid them on that settlement and then they sold your account to Palisades, am I right? Chances are the amount that was discharged under settlement has been sold to Palisade. You have to contact the first CA to verify this.

However, it could be a mistake on their part as well. Let's see how they respond to your letter. You can also consider speaking to them if you have any number. Keep us posted.

They have admitted they made the mistake they processed my payment under someone elses account and now state all the papers are in review and they will have to buy back the account from Palisades in order to clear this up!? Will this remove Palisades from my credit report as they should never have been there? I feel like I am getting the run around and wonder if I need a lawyer? Any advise who be great!

It should. But your creditor has to report it to the bureaus. Credit bureaus do not gather information by their own. So unless creditor reports it correctly, it will be there in your report.

However, you have the option of disputing with credit bureaus too. If you dispute, bureau will run an investigation. Since your creditor has admitted their mistake, chances are the investigation will result in your favor and the file will be updated accordingly. Keep us posted.

P.S. if this mistake has hurt you in some way, you can definitely consult a lawyer and inquire if you can claim compensation from them.

Add one more to the list! I just checked my credit report. Yep, Palasades showed up and a collection. I've never hear of them before...but, I do have an ATT charge in despute. I know that ATT padded my billing then refused to adjust my bill because it was over 30 days since they billed the amount. I actually had one of their employees tell me that they are allowed to "write off" amounts within the 30 day period... I SURE it is because ATT has never gotten the hang of Accurate Billing! Sounds like this Palasades and ATT are one in the same!!

Guess I've got some cleaning up to do too!

i had an account with AT&T in the late 90's up til 2001. i bought the nokia matrix phone for $800 when it first came out and AT&T made me put down a $1000 deposit, which i did. the service blew in NYC, and could barely ever use my phone, but still every month my bill was $500-600. every month AT&T would call and say you should change your plan, and I did, but the bill was always over $500. i was making alot of money at the time so i just paid it everymonth. looking back they were so unethical.
anyway, in 2002 i realized they owed me $1000 for my deposit + interest, because i filled out a tax form when i put the money down. well after i closed my account i called them and got the $1002.00 back. i made 2 dollars interest during the greatest bull market in american history. anyway fast forward to 2006 and i receive a letter from Pressler and Pressler saying they represent Palisades Collection, LLC. i owe $396.00 so i call them and they said Palisades tried to contact me, which they never did. I paid the money right there on the phone, and it's been 2 months now and although Pressler has given me a letter saying it's been payed, I need one from Palisades, because they are the ones reporting this to the credit bureaus. Experian and co. wont accept the letter from Pressler, even though it clearly refers to AT&T and Palisades. So i call Palisades and when they finally get back to me, they said they will be able to send me a letter in 2 weeks, or march 13th, 2006. I've called them EVERY DAY since the 13th, (it'w now march 21)and left at least a dozen messages. The name when you call the place has changed in the past couple of days, it's no longer Palisades.
I threatened to come up to Englewood if i dont get a call back, and tonight someone called me and said allow 4-7 business days for a letter.
The bottom line is my credit score went from 700 to 598 in one quarter, and i havent missed a payment on anything since i was in college 13 years ago.
it really sucks because I am buying a house in 6 months. that's why i didn't even argue the money and just paid it on the spot.
It's amazing no one at pressler or palisades, or AT&T ever called me in the last few years this supposed debt existed. the lesson is, anyone of these chop shop companies can severely damage your financial life.

I just got a copy of my credit report and there are 2 negatives on there from Palisades. One for $101 and another for $198. I know the $198 is from when ATT bought back there numbers from MCI, but I paid MCI 198 and cancelled my service with them and got service with ATT on my own. I think the problem is MCI took my payment, but they didn't account for it before they sold all there numbers back to ATT. This was a least 4 years ago. I'm not sure what to do since I don't have proof of the check since it was so long ago. I have no idea what the $101 is for. I was thinking about just paying both amounts just to get it off my credit report.
