To anyone being harrassed by Palisades Collection, LLC:
Palisades Collection has been harrassing my neighbors about an AT&T Wireless account from 2002 (which AT&T Wireless does't have any record at all for and which an inaccurate account number was given) calling them from 7AM - 10PM for months now. They have never contacted us by phone, only by mail. The number listed on the notice is an automated system that requests a written letter of dispute. You can't speak to a person.
Calling AT&T Wireless was completely useless, because, if according to their records, the account doesn't exist, they can't assist you even though Palisades Collection says they are an assignee of AT&T Wireless.
I contacted my local FBI office for help and they referred me to the Federal Trade Commission which stated that they were incapable of doing anything to Palisade Collection unless they received a considerable amount of complaints against them.
I suggest that anyone ever having any trouble with this company contact the FCC and file a complaint against them and send this information out to every website, blog, etc. that you know of that would spread the word about this company.
The phone number for the FCC is 1-877-382-4357.

They apparently did a judgement against me and there is no way I can fight them off. I don't know what to do. Should I counter sue? They don't even want to settle.

For the judgement: Were you ever actually served? If you had been served and just ignored the summons, unfortunately there is not much that can be done at this point. However, if you never got a summons then you might be able to get it vacated. You should check with the county clerk.

Hi - I have received 3 robo calls from Palisades Collection in the last 10 days. The first 2 calls were answered by my machine, as I was out of state. Both those calls cut off the message and all I heard was "collection agency". I figured it was just a telemarketer/wrong number since I KNOW I have no outstanding debts (we just refinaced the home). But 2 days ago, at my husband's office, he got a robo call from them and they are using my maiden name (I have been married over 12 years) and left a "reference number". I have NOT received anything via mail, nor have I checked my credit report this the refi became final a month ago. Since they are using my maiden name, and since I have 2 other distant relatives by the SAME name, do I need to respond to these people (and of course the only way I have to do that is to call the 800 number they left and enter the reference code)? Is it better to respond or wait until something erroneously turns up on my credit report?

Call them and give the ref number. You can verify your name and current mailing address with them. DO NOT give them your full social....if they ask for it, give them the last 4 digits. Do not discuss the debt at all, just simply say, "I am not discussing this account until I have all pertinent information." Keep parroting yourself. Offer nothing, no matter what they say. Then inform them that they have 5 days to send you a letter with the debt information on it. Also try and get their name and mailing address.

Wait the five days and if they send you nothing send them a letter informing them they have already violated your rights by not sending you a letter within 5 days of the call and that they are to cease & desist all further contact with you. IF they send a letter, send a debt validation letter.

More than likely the debt is from more than 12 years ago and it won't legally appear in your credit file and it is likely way past SOL (won't know that until we know what state you are in). You can send them a cease & desist letter and just not bother with them.

Thank you Goldenblast. I appreciate your advice and quick response. I will take care of this tomorrow, I'm sick today. I've never had any debts that I am aware of, have never been sent any type of collection letters/notice even back 12 plus years ago. I have however been doing a lot of research on this CA (Palisades) and see a lot of other people in the same boat as me. I will report back here so others can be helped...even if it turns out to be legit - which I HIGHLY doubt. Thank you again for your time!

So I did call the 1-800 number today and spoke with Mitchell, who was actually very kind. I immediately obtained an address for the company with no resistance. He asked for my reference number and did verify my name (although it was my maiden name) and my address. He did NOT ask me for any part of my social. He said the debt is for First Union Bank for a car loan and asked if I ever had a carloan with them. I told him "No" (I've only had a car loan with GMAC, but I just told him "no" and gave him no info whatsoever.) He said they (Palisades) sent a letter to me on March 2. Today is March 8th and I have not received anything from them. He told me since I never had a loan with First Union that I should just fax or write them a letter saying it is not my loan. From all the research I have done, I know I should write not fax, certify and get signature confirmation. I imagine I could do this and at the same time mention cease & desist. He did not mention a date or what state the debt is from, perhaps it's in the letter. Should I wait for the "letter"? And if I receive it, do I still need to send a debt validation letter first? Or since I know the loan is not mine, just send the cease & desist letter?

be on the safe side and send a debt validation letter just in case this guy made a mistake with the name of the bank. Definitely send it CMRR.

Just updating. Well, it's now March 31 and I still have NOT received anything in writing from Palisades Collection. Today I sent a Cease & Desist letter (sent CMRR) because on the 21st they did start robo-calling my home and my husband's office again.
