Nickrock,

If you do not hear from them in future also, considering adding a statement in your credit report. That will not improve your score, however, you can convey the real story to your creditors.

Also file complaint against them with FTC, BBB and AG's office. Ignoring consumer's request is a bad business strategy.

BORAH,

Why will you pay the debt that is already paid off? Ask for debt validation. Third party collection agencies are bound to send you validation if you request. Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. If they cannot validate the debt, you can ask credit bureau to remove the entry. Keep us posted.

Send CD letter with copies of your payment made in full. Also check the SOL of debt collection in your state.

Mika, check if Palisades is collecting for some bill related with any of your account with AT&T. If this is the case, you will have to inform the credit bureau reporting this account. They will verify the item with the company and remove if it is incorrect.

They hit me with a collection notice for $7500 on an account I've never had through a bank I've never heard of.

MC,

You need to get the account validated by Palisades. They are required to give you an itemized statement showing the complete break down of the amount before you pay them anything.

See the name of the credit company for which Palisades is collecting. You can seek information from them too and know the accurate picture.

I have checked my credit report and found that Palisades keeps reporting a payment I made to close and account last year. The last reported date for the payment is constantly updated on my report. How do I go about correcting this? The debt was paid in full last year and my report reflects this but the last reported date keeps changing thereby, making the debt look more current and negatively impacting my score every month.

Ami

Palisades is doing an illegal activity by reaging your account. Inform the credit bureau and explain this situation. They will verify it with the collection agency and stop them from doing so. Do your correspondences in writing through certified mail. Have copies documented in a file for records.

I was served a summons by an Attorney's office for an alleged At&t bill and I have never owned an At&t phone. They said I co-signed over the phone for this service. I have no knowledge of ever doing this. What should I do?

Gale, Palisades must give the details of the debt account in writing. They are required to follow the federal laws of validating the debt while attempting collections. Since you don't believe this account to be true, Palisades has to confirm it in writing.

Check out with your local county and see if any legal summons has been filed against you. Most of the CA's issue fake legal papers. Once you are sure about a hearing in the court, go with all your documents to prove the facts. The judge will possibly rule in your favor after the account is found disputed.

Collections agencies do not have to settle accounts with you.

If you settled a previous account that they are trying to collect on chances are the agency you settled with didn't close it out properly. Always keep your zero balance letters. Keep ALL documentation. If it isn't documented it didn't happen.
