Trying To Help

Message Author
PostPosted: Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:01 pm Subject: Trying To Help

I am trying to respond to topics in a helpful way, but it seems like I don't know as much as everyone else. I want to help people as much as I can seeing how you all were there when I needed questions answered. I am trying to learn more about debt issues that I haven't had experience with just for my own knowelege as well as to help others.

I hope to learn more soon so I am able to help the new members. So any advice from the old school debt helpers is greatly appreciated. I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Thanks.

I have also learned alot since coming to this board.Being in debt myself Sad has taught me alot and I am happy when I can help someone on this forum.I was a HR manager for over 20 years before my current job,so I do know alot about employment laws and garnishments.Sometimes those who come here just need advice, but there always seems to be someone here who can give the anwsers to questions when needed. The more you read here, the more you learn.Every bit of advice you can give, from your own experiences, will help someone who is going thru hard times.Sometimes its just nice to know that your not alone.
Good luck to you Shopaholic and keep posting.

shopaholic5,

Keep reading this forum religiously. You are already doing a good job here. The moderators, debt Samaritans and some of the community members of this forum have a huge knowledge on the financial industry.

Keep learning from the posts here and soon, you too will be able to offer good advice. Maybe, I will get struck with some query and I will come to you for suggestions. I know, you will be able to help us out. Very Happy

Hi Shopaholic,

I am learning so much myself. It's nice to know that we have somewhere to go with our debt issues and to discuss these issues with others. Before, I felt totally alone. Here, we learn to correct the behaviors and past mistakes. We learn how to budget and face those collection calls. In fact, I have enjoyed the research so much that I've done here and on my own, that I've decided to go back to school. I would like to study something in the criminal justice field. Dealing with payday lenders has left me frustrated and angry. I know I got myself into the situation but it's up to us to teach those around us to stay away from them, etc. So something positive has come from a severe negative. Very Happy

Hi! I don't have all the answers either but here is my take on it. This is something I posted to David a couple of days ago.
Quote:
David, you're right and stumbling upon this community, is the best thing thats happened to me since the beginning of all my debt problems! It feels so good here, everyone trying to help each other, we all 'knowing the feeling' and being in the same boat together. THe people here are just awesome. I am so glad that I have a place to come to, to talk and share my debt troubles when I feel the world is kicking me while I'm down. It really does make a difference. And you know sometimes, someone sharing a smile or a pat on the back can really make a big difference. I try to think of it like this, that next person that comes through the door here at the forum, you don't know what they've been through/what they're going through...their life might be sooo bad that they're thinking of ending it all, thats just how doom and gloom they feel. They just can't deal with the debts, the harrassments, the phone calls etc, But someone here says something, encourages them, give them a smile and tries to lift them up a little by saying, 'hey, its not as bad as you might think'--keep plugging, it will get better for you' and gives them a little hope. See to me, this is what its all about. I'm not a mod here or anything, just a joe blow debtor, but I've learned alot and have been through alot. so sometimes I jump in and try to help--if its something I know about. I've noticed that some of the others are doing this too. This is just a great place to be!!!! hugs, shirley

I have learned so much here and only hope that someone has learned something from me, my way of 'putting back in'. shirley Very Happy

Yes Shirley, you are doing a great job now. As I said in my previous post, you don't want others to go through the same problems in which you have already been and some suggestions from your side can save their unnecessary work and precious time. Do keep up the good work Very Happy

BTW, Happy birthday to you once again Very Happy

Thanks two kid. I am searching for criminal justice programs in my area this week. I'm really excited about it. My family says I will be good at it. My mom said she sees passion in my eyes when I talk to her about the research I've recently done and the things that I've learned. Roxette, you are absolutely gorgeous Smile I've been meaning to say that and I hope things are going well for you.

I'm a little down today. Didn't get any bad news in the mail, so theres a plus. Thats always a good thing, right??!!! And I have managed to stop all the phone calls so now my phone never rings unless its someone that I WANT to talk to. But my husband was overhearing talk at work today about cut backs because business and profit are slow right now. and I couldn't help but to think, oh no, here we go again!!!! This is what got us in the spot we're in now. (and THIS is the same exact job that layed him off before) So now I'm really pushing to pay off as much as I can as fast as I can, in case this 'water cooler' talk is true. This is my plan of attack.
