I opened a Sears account in 1992; from my recollection, I used the account a few times until 1994 or so. From my credit reports, the highest balance was $68 (I bought shoes).

Sears sold their portfolio in 2001, which included this account. It has also been sold to other companies since then.I have tried unsuccesfully to locate the "owner" of this account, as Sears claims they no longer own it.

I have been contacted by 3 collection agencies since 1994 claiming that I owe over $402 on this account. I have credit reports from 1998, 2002, 2004, 2005 - none of which show any outstanding debt.

The 1st two agencies have not been able to provide any validity of debt. The 2nd agency put it on my credit report, which I have disputed. It was investigated and removed.

How can I deal with this 3rd company now, so that I no longer have this problem? It seems that this debt is stemming from when the portfolio was sold - I feel it was an error and erronously applied to my account, since I have not used it in over 10 years.

Sears sold their credit card division to Citigroup in I beleive 2002 or so. You may want to start with Citi and go from there.

In any case, this item should be removed from your credit report because the 7 years stay has expired as per the FCRA laws.

Highlight this item and dispute it with the CRA reporting it. I will prefer to send it through certified mail/return receipt requested for records.

My name is Motuga Fuimaono. My problem is I have paid off my outstanding balance at Sears Company for 6 years now for $810.00. Sears Company have not rec'd the payment but the payment was transfer to Portfolio Collection Agency which i have number to contact them, so they can clear my name from Sears Company. It's frustrating because I couldn't have loans due to that delinquent account. Please help me to clear my name.

Paying for the last six years without anything in writing!! Talk to a debt counselor and get this matter straightened up. You can take some free advice after sign up with this site. I hope that everything ends up nicely with you.

I HAVE AN OLD CEL BILL FROM 2001,IT WAS SOLD TO PORTFOLIO SVS, I TOLD THE GENTLEMAN THAT CALLED ME WE HAD BEEN IN DISPUTE MANY YEARS AGO AND NEVER HEARD ANYTHING AGAIN. THE MAN GOT CRAZY TELLING ME I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT LAW. HE TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO RERORT ME TO THE CREDIT AGENCY EVERY 6 MONTHS, UNTIL MY SCORE WAS NOTHING. ???? This is easy...they Big 3 need to delete just based on the SOL. Do you have proof you paid it off? If so, let me know and I'll post the fax numbers for disputes for all of the Big 3. I don't even bother with sending the certified mail and waiting 30 days. The way I do it, they have 5 business days!! My score has jumped 69 points in the past 2 months doing it this way, so it has worked for me.
