i was sent an email stating that I had won a large sum of money. Is this a legitimate winning from this company or have they been known to commit fraud.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.
After inquiring more about it, you will realize that the company is perhaps, trying to scam you. They will ask you to send some money in advance to secure the deal and later the money will be transferred to your bank account. If they get your bank information, they will try to hit fraudulent debits. Your personal information will get jeopardized and this will begin your identity theft.
Do not acknowledge these emails. Mark them as spam and keep it off your computer.
Legitimate offers do not come in such ways. There are better methods and legitimate companies making offers. You have to distinguish a fake offer from the real one.
Regards
Roxette

This is a Scam.First off,you must enter a lotto to win it,and email is too unreliable to notify prize winners. Real lotteries don't use email to notify winners. Either they have to come forward on their own or they are notified by registered mail. These scammers ask you for large fees, and then take your money and run.Delete these emails.

If you reply to these mails, they will ask for your bank account information, ostensibly to remit your win, or send some money to cover the security, insurance, etc. costs. They can also show you the guarantee by sending an official looking document if you demand for it. Once you have sent the money, you won't hear much from them anymore.
Do not send any money replying to these mails. They will try to get information about your bank or credit card. This is going to be their first move to scam you. Never phone them.
Hi Debbie, how is everything at your end? Didn't talk to you since quite a long time

If you didn't enter the lottery and it sounds too good to be true, it is a scam.

yeap, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck---well you know the rest. I have heard about this before, they want your bank account number, telling you they need it to put your winnings in, but actually instead of 'putting' in, they take it all out. They've screwed alot of old people. Shirley

Any "prize" (and I use the term loosely) that requires you to a. send money to them to get your "prize", b. give out your banking or personal information c. you didn't enter to win or d. just simply sounds too good to be true, then STAY AWAY. It is a SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. SCAM.

Today, I saw in the CNN that one lady (may be she works in the factory) won the $300 million lottery. And the other guy won something around $15 million. She was so nervous in front of the press. She started saying, "We have to believe that we are millionaires now.." what a luck...

Yes, they were very lucky. But they bought a lottery ticket too!
Who is it that says "if you don't enter, you can't win!"?

Hi ttthayden
Well, I will tell you something that is a sort of conspiracy in such game shows. You know that the company bears the costs of all these wins. So, they try that the money does not go to anyone outside their company. There are many ways by which the public can be fooled by these big giants. I was seeing a very popular game show in the TV very nicely advertised. People used to come from far off places to participate in the show. Most of the people do not qualify in the preliminary rounds. Do you know why? Because the seat for the next round is booked for someone from their company only who is among the other participants. The company tries to promote their staff from the bunch for the next round. Later, it came into focus and apparently that show had to be stopped. People do not realize the internal criss cross activities of these biggies. You never know how fortune can strike you. Well, this girl winning the lottery life has found her life changed overnight. She didn't look like someone from that company.

I hope I didn't come across as rude. I just meant that to some extent, they created their own luck. I, for example, will never win a powerball jackpot. Why? Because I don't buy tickets. After the point of purchase it was all luck or good fortune or however you choose to look at it.
