Asset Acceptance changed date of debt on my credit report with the credit bureaus! is this legal

the last date on the sbc debt i have was back in 2000, but now asset acceptance has bought it i presume? the date with the bureaus are
Date Opened:03/2005
Reported Since:04/2005
i think it was just out of SOL for California
i am about to send a validation request and see what happens is this a good course to go with this as i just got a letter from them saying that as i am saying that the account is paid then i must provide them with the check stub to prove its paid or the dispute is over and the debt valid
this is in response to me saying that im sure that the account was paid when they asked about it months ago... any help with this would be appreciated as its a large debt theyre saying but it was paid but i dont have the check stub from that long ago.

thanks in advance

Hi piptay

Welcome to the forums.

Whoever can prove the account details holds the stronger voice. Asset does not have anything to prove that you owe this account.

Check your previous bank statements when this account was paid or any old copy of your credit report that confirms the payment. You will have to try finding some old documents about this account.

The statutes of limitation in California for credit card debts expire after 2 years from the date of last activity.

but i never disputed the debt i told the person that called that i was sure that i settled the account and he said he would look into it.

well im am sending this letter of verification that i got from this site and see what they say.

piptay...check with your bank. If you paid by check they may still have something on it. My bank keeps copies of checks in their files for 7 yrs. If they don't have a copy of the check..they should still have your bank statements archived for up to 7yrs. It may take time for them to get it... but it is worth a shot. Good luck.
