I got a phone call from a Dianne at this number, just telling me to have myself or my attorney call her back in one hour! Does anyone know this number? I have dealt with Jacobi, Anthony Galloway, all of them, is this another one to add to the list? Please help a girl out, just when I think I get rid of them, someone different calls.

Accoring to previous post, it appears that number belongs to Interstate Wire Compliance Bureau. After rechecking the BBB site, it appears that Jacobi & Mayors are affiliated with them. The BBB shows several complaints made, of which none have been resolved.
You have no reason to worry. There childish threats of throwing you in jail are only a scare tactic to get you to pay their Friday paycheck.
I would consider having a tape recorder ready for the next time they call you. All incoming calls coming into a private home have the right to be recorded to catch harassers. This is one of those times. They have certain laws they have to follow if they are a collection agency...one of which is to state the reason/nature of the call.
There are sample letters floating around in the forums you can send out to them. It's a combo validation-cease & desist letter. I can send you a private message with a copy of it. Using this letter will give them 30 days to prove to you they are legally allowed to collect on the debt, as well as prove the debt is yours.
Rest easy knowing that the next time they call could be their last. Be sure to file a complaint if you speak with them and any laws are broken. It sounds like that will be their next step if they're asking for your attorney to contact them.
Regards-
Mike

Mikey~
I looked at the other forums and it does appear that their address is the same as I had for Jacobi. I sent them a certified letter a few months ago and haven't heard anything back on it or from them, but now I am getting calls from Interstate. They are really exhausting all their attempts here. I am going to send a letter to them as well and we will see what happens.
Thanks to all you for your feedback, it helps tremendously. Though all of this still scares me!!

Companies have to change names after getting complaints. But it appears the BBB caught on to this, and is listing the former company along with the new name. Look in your mailbox, I'll be sending you a letter you can use to send them.

I started receiving calls at work from this number. They would leave messages with people to have me or my attorney call them back. The same number everytime but their name was always different. United federal bank, interstate wire, anthony galloway, and so on. They would call three or more times a week and say the same thing. So finally last week I had it. I told them by employer was taping all these calls and he had filed a police report and was sending the taped call to the police to file harassment charges and his attorney was taking this info to the attorney and will be filing suite against them. I told them if they called me at work again they were in serious trouble. I has been a week and I havent had a call. Hopefully that will stop them for a while anyways. It is just so annoying that they continue to call and will not send you any information and feel it is ok to harass everyone until they find the one person who will send them money out of fear. These people are horrible.

Just a little FYI for everyone, United Federal Bank does NOT exist.
It appears that the name United Federal Bank was used for a payday loan company. The collection agency that was handling those accounts are very difficult to deal with, and have extremely poor communication skills.

Mikey, I hope they continue to do this because I have noticed this alot through reading the forum, that if a collection agency gets into trouble with violation of rights or gets reported...they shut down and open up under another name. They're right back in business. And from what I hear about some of them, they don't learn from it either--they start right back up with their sleezie ways. They need to crack down on this more and stop it from happening. I can't believe they can get away with this!! shirley

Rest assured, you have nothing to worry about. You will not be going to jail. There is no debt prison. The collection agency contacting you is already in a heap of trouble. Chances are they have no license to be collecting, and cannot send validation of debt when people request it. So from there, they feel the only way to make that big buck for whopper they need is to threaten the borrowers.
You may wish to contact the original lendor and explain to them the nature of the call you received. Getting threatened like that is illegal, and should be stopped. Perhaps you can pay them directly, or find out if the collection agency even owns the account and has rights to be collecting. If the collection agency is the only who can collect on it, you'll be kind of in a bind.
I first recommend filing complaints. You can do so with the BBB, and the AG in your state.
As far as contacting you at your work, they're allowed to do that, but CANNOT disclose information to anyone else besides you. Also, if you ask for calls to cease at your job...calls must stop. From there they can only contact you at home or by mail.
Hope this information helps. Please don't be scared of the shady collectors.
Regards-
Mike

linda,
Browse this forum and you can see lots of information about them. These are scaring tactics used by them. Just see the post made by Tiffy above, it will give you some strength.
Third party collection agency cannot call at your work if you ask them stop calling. You have to send them cease comm letter and mention that you will like to be contacted through mails only.
If they still continue calling you, file complaint against them with FTC, BBB and AG's office. Meanwhile try to contact your creditor and get the loan paid to them directly. Keep us posted.
