Sub: How do I pay off collection accounts?

Hi--
I recently received a free credit report and there were some collection accounts and an unpaid medical bill that I want to pay off. How do I do that? Is there a phone number? What do I do to get these paid?
Thanks
Jillian

You'll need to call the companies and arrange payments. Are you definately sure that the bills are yours? I would send verifications to them to be sure that they have the legal right to collect, also.

Jillian,

If you know the name of the collection agency holding your accounts, you can send them debt validation letters to get the itemized details of your account. This way you can understand if the amount claimed is correct or not, if the agency has the legal rights to collect the debt and so on. If you find any wrong information in the validation, you have the right to dispute it as well. Read the article below to know more about debt validation-

You can find the contact information of the collection agency in the BBB website.
