I received 3 calls from them. They refused to tell me anything only that they wanted to talk to my husband. The name the gave me was Western Research and that they were a charity organization. When I pointed out the fact that they call themselves a research co. they insisted that they needed to talk to my husband. Is there a national BBB that I can call?

If you want to file a complaint, you can do that with the local BBB in your area. You can also send a copy to the AG's office and fill out this complaint form. All unfair activities and wrong presentation of the accounts must be reported to the authorities immediately. Once large number of complaints has been files, the legal process begins against the ones breaking the laws.

I let all calls go to the answering maching. They hang up and dont leave a message. The calls have slowed way down since I dont answer. I have caller ID and it tells me 801. No one should answer questions to surveys over the phone. too many ID thiefs.

i rec'd a call today and i have the privacy director, but it does not go through that b/c the phone number is released. i did a reverse phone look up on the white pages and it is a number out of utah, and then i googled and found this website. apperently alot of people are being harassed by this company. i didn't answer, and they didn't leave a message.... i also have call block, so i *60 their number, and i won't be bothered again...... but there should be some kind of lawsuit or something..... calling at work, even if it is a creditor you owe money to, is illegal if you tell them not to call you there

my grandmother was called four times today. No one ever spoke and she wrote the number down - same number listed below. It scares her that she lives alone and someone calls and hangs up. She is 87. Please let me know if I can help do anything. Thank you. Tim

Collectors can be legally stopped from making the phone calls after you send them the cease and desist letter. This letter has a legal effect after the company receives your request. They must not make any calls in the future except to notify about their legal actions. If they still continue with their collection attempts over the phone, this will be a violation of the cease and desist rule implied on the collectors. You need to consult an attorney dealing with lawsuits of fdcpa violations and file a case against the company. Here is a template of the cease and desist letter. You can use it as per your requirements and send it to the company's mailing address. Send it through certified mail with return receipt requested and keep a copy for records.

Read more about the legal ways to be followed by a debt collector when contacting the people in debts. They must not violate the federal laws put in the FDCPA.

We took a call from this outfit. They are political operatives doing a "push poll" for the Republican Party.

I registered a complaint with www.donotcall.gov. The number is linked to Mountain West Research Center. Local number in Pocatello, ID 208-232-1818. I emailed them to stop contacting me and told them I had reported them.

Way to go bookworm. The rest of y'all should consider following suit, and seeing if this works. My own big problem with these clowns is that I don't answer ANY calls I don't recognize, and I have people call me at home about membership in a professional organization I chair. So, as a result of clowns, I miss some potential membership, it's a bit irritating. I am trying all the tricks I've read above, hopefully they'll all work.

To carrie, Call the federal trade commission (FTC) they should be listed in the phone book. It will take about 10 min. to register a complaint they will give you a complaint #, keep it for a year. However(right away) send them A registerd letter with the complaint #, telling them to stop the calls, if they dont; call the FTC. and they will shut them down if there are enough complaints.

Here is a new one for you to try.

This is the address for the site for this research company, Mountain West.
It give a listing of their whole board of directors, their addresses and phone numbers and a photo.
Next time you get a call after you've asked them to stop start calling these people and complaining.

Thanks to you all, I now have answers to questions I didn't know I had until I saw this number on my Vonage account. I Googled it and arrived at your site. Now I also understand those pestiferous "survey" calls that always come at inconvenient moments. Thank you for saving me time and stress.

Never answer any questions asked over a phone, if they cannot verifie what company they work for. If they will not find you a supervisor, Tell them, this is a fair and legal warning.
You may be exempt from the do not call list, but I have rights to who does call here. And I am telling you Do Not Call again, or the Phone Company and the State Police will be checking you out, if you call again! And Hang up.
