Hi there, I am a college student and unfortunately and trapped with credit card debt and am unable to consolidate it!

Fortunately, I was able to get a car loan last year to purchase a vehicle.

Anyway, a little history here.

I go to school, and the credit card companies feast upon college students, because we are vunerable. Well, I got a credit card to start building credit. Got approved for $3500, and I knew I should have threw the card out then!
Well, as of today, the debt on that particular card (Citi MAstercard) is about $5000 and the monthly payment is more than I can afford. So, I go and get two more credit cards, a GM Card and a VISA. These two cards aren't too bad. They are only a few hundred dollars, and I am attempting to pay them off, but can only afford the minimum payment of $10 to $15. I also have a store charge card with about $1000. With all the debt and the very small amount of money I make, I can't afford to pay certain creditors each month, and I know that is going to hurt my credit score very badly.

To top things off, I had to get my car fixed. It cost $250.00 and I didn't have the cash. End result: $250 loan from Cash Advance America. I owe them $287.50 next week. I should be able to pay it because I am working a few more hours at work. I picked up another part-time job where I work at home for a few hours per week. My grades are taking a toll because all I worry about is my debt. What are some benefits of this program? I have student loans, will this effect my eligability? I need help because I am going to ruin my future if I cant pay off.

I tried getting a loan w/ lower monthly payments, but I got declined, and that was with Citi Financial, a subsidary of my Master Card. I can't even get a credit limit increase to bring over my other debt onto one card.

How can I get help before this gets worse?

Lindsay,

A new loan to clear your debts is not a good idea. It will take you in deeper debt. Consolidation could be a good option for you. This site offers free counseling to the registered members. The counselor will explain the program in details and will answer to all of your queries.

Basically the interest rate of your credit cards will be lowered and late fees, financial charges will be cut out. Hence you will be offered a simple monthly installment that fits your budget.

On the completion of the program, your credit report will be updated as paid or paid as agreed. So this would help you build up a good credit in the long run. You can go through the benefits of the program here-

BTW, welcome to the forum

Well, I looked a lot of stuff over and I am going to continue to read more and more each day I am on here.

I went ahead and did the application and awaiting a call from a counselor. I have a good feeling about this and I want to get this taken care of ASAP.

Also, the point system, prior to this post it says I have 65DebtCC Points. I read up on this, and see that you can exchange or even get money. I have a PayPal account, so this should be very beneficial. But, my question is, what does the points equal out to. Like, 1pt = ? Just curious.

Thanks,

Zach
