Handle this situation very calmly. Since the check bounced and has been sent to the collection agency, they are trying to recover the money from you. You can still make the payment to your original creditor as the account might be still with them. If they agree to accept the payment from you, CA has to back off.
It is possible that the debt can go higher with the financial charges tucked into it. But the collection agency or the store has to present the accurate details of the account in writing. They must furnish the calculation of the interest rate and other charges. You can always request from the collection agency if this information has been given to them by the store. Try to make arrangements with the original creditor.
Don't get tensed from these threats. If you feel this is incorrect, you can file your complaint at the local AG's office for proper actions.
