Hi. I received a phone call similiar to the ones you all are speaking too. The threatened jail time, coming to my job and my residence to "embarrass" me. I tried to make arrangements and nothing was exceptable. They were very rude. I called the actual pay day loan company and advised them they may want to look into another 3rd party debt collector due to LMP's illegal behavior. I paid part of the loan to LMP, however I arranged to pay the balance to the pay day loan company. I spoke with Michigan's Attorney General's office today who advised me everything they were doing is against the law. I am now filing a complaint with the Attorney General's office. This is just ridculous.

Glad you stood up for yourself and filed the appropriate complaints. I wish more people would stand up for themselves, as you did, against Il-legal Mediation Mal-Practice and we might actually get them to understand there is an actual law they must follow when collecting debts and there are legal consequences when they don't.

As much as they wish it were so, being unable to repay a loan, yes even a pay-day loan, is not against the law. And no matter how many times they tell people this, they will not come to, or even send law enforcement, to your home or job to arrest and/or embarrass you!

We need to shut these crooks down!

This "firm" is nothing more than a collection agencies. However, I do know of a couple of instances in which they have sent "police" to arrest someone. Of course, the police did not arrest the customers. They did, however, scare those individuals into paying their default loan off that day. it is a scare tactic, nothing more. If your state allows secrect phone recordings I would suggest doing that. Otherwise, have someone you trust on the phone with you when talking to them-as a witness to the conversation.

Hope this helps

P.S. I work in the payday loan industry and have dealt with LMP from a business standpoint.

LOL!

Couldn't have set it better myself PaulMergel!

I'd be willing to bet my left arm the police would laugh in LMP (or any other CA) called them, asking for them to go make an attempt at arresting someone just to put a scare in them making them pay. Now I'm sure the police would show up to arrest someone for passing bad checks; however, the "bad check" scare tactic LMP (and other CA's) use is just that: a scare tactic.

Gotta give him credit, though, he did at least admit the threat of arrest is a scare tactic; however, he shot just about all of his credibility to Hades when he said the police will actually show up in order to put a scare in someone.

Save the BS for the phone calls to debtors Payday Steve, it will not fly in this forum.

I got the same phone call from this lady. Before returning her call, I looked up the information about the company, this is where I found this forum. Fortunately, I already had an idea of what she was going to say. At first she wanted me to give her my social, Yeah Right. I let her know that I do not give my social over the phone, then she put me on hold for about five minutes or so and found my "file". She then proceeded to tell me that I was going to be picked up by the police at my home or my job. I told her that I was a lawyer, and she claimed that as a lawyer I should know my state laws. I replied that I do and she could not touch me, needless to say she hung up on me. LOL Thanks for the heads up folks and No I am not a lawyer.

while we advocate paying what you owe,not what a bottom feeder says.we don't advocate misrepresenting.two wrongs do not make a right.let them act illegally not you,you lose the
moral high ground that way.

I closed out my bank account due to illegal transactions taken out from my account that I didn't recognize. They threatened to do a warrant and put me in Jail. Arrest me on my job or at my home the next day if I didn't have the money into them. They told me the pay day loan company and all. Can they do that!!!!! What do I do. I do plan to get these loans paid off, but I have no money until next month?

It if a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to state that a consumer has committed a crime or will be arrested for a debt. Also debts are civil matters, not criminal. Check my signature link for a guide to recording phone conversations and check to see if the state you live in is a one party state (meaning that the other party does not have to grant consent or even have knowledge that the conversation is being recorded.

If you live in a one party state record their threat and it can be worth $1,000 in a civil suit + punitive damages, court costs, and attorney fees.

Also you should file a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office as this company has a bad habit of violating the fdcpa and I'm sure the FL AG would love to hear from you.

This guy named Jay Mason contacted pertaining to a payday loan that I had defaulted on. He called myjob screaming at me like I was some kind of child. I tried(to no avail) to tell him that I had set up payments with the loan company to pay them back and he tells me that if the debt is not paid by 2pm I will be embarrased at home or my job. At first I got scared then I realized that's not possible. So I told him where he could put his collections and he hung up on me....Moral to the story, don't let these people scare you!!! Make arrangements with loan company itself, not the collectors. I also sent them a cease and desist letter barring them from contacting me via telephone, especially at my job.

Lynota27,

I received the similar phone call from Jay Mason also today. He was telling me the same thing. He told me that I had until 3:00 today to make a payment or legal actions will be taken. He kinda scared me at first. I was upset and worried for the first hour or so. Then got to thinking, whatever he said could not possible be true.

This Jay was rude and he told me that he did not care what I thought that he hopes I do get picked up. Cuz I was using my place of employment tp get over. That I thought I was above the law. I told him that I had no idea what he was talking about.

Then I received a call from a Ms. Andrews. I was not in, I got a message on my desk that she had called. This company is very harassing and rude.
