Default How to stop them from calling wrong phone #?

I've been trying for months to get this Accounts Solutions Group to stop harassing me. They call my cell phone, use my minutes, waste my time and now (according to person I spoke with today-on my home phone which I used to call back) will add my home number to the account of a person I don't even know. I've explained to them 4-5 five times in the last 6 months that they have the wrong person! I have been yelled at, cussed at and hung-up on when expressing my frustration. I've even been told x2, they've removed my number associated with this person.

I don't understand why they don't just pay a $39 fee to locate the person, collect the fee and put this matter to rest. Obviously the collectors don't get paid for fees collected, but rather for calls during the day they make. Even if it's clearly to the wrong number.

I have never had bad credit, yet I feel sorry for people who are harassed by agencies such as these, even if they do have bad credit.

Guest w/a brain--

you need to stop contact entirely with them over the phone. It is actually pretty simple--you need to send them a letter via certified mail, RRR. Send them what we call a validation letter. This is your request to them, as provided for by federal law, asking them to validate that the debt is real, that it is legally your debt, and that they have the legal right to collect on it. In the same letter, you can advise them that they are to immediately cease and desist any and all communication with you except through the US Mail.

Failure to honor your request to cease contacting you is a violation of federal law. If you send this letter, and they call you after they receive it anyways, you can sue them. But more importantly, the validation letter requires them to stop all collection activity until they provide you with the necessary proof of the debt, as I described above. If they dont honor that, it is again a violation of federal law. These violations can cost them up to $1000 a piece, in court, payable to YOU.

One thing though--as mentioned, you need to send this letter by certified mail, return receipt requested. That way you can prove that you sent it and that they received it. If you do this, and they continue to harass you, get back to us.

how come the collection agency is made out to be the bad guy when the only thing they are doing is trying to collect on money that they BORROWED from there client and then never paid them back....how would you feel if you lent someone 3,000 dollars and then that person you lent it to refused to pay you back....so the debtor is the DEADBEAT not the agency

When the person that the collection company is harassing is not the person that owes, than I would sue them for every cent that I legally could. Then I would have a backroom "meeting" with the individual who kept calling me. Sidekick, if your money is on BR, you would be the debtor.

You see, I'm old school, grew up on the streets of New York, and things were not settled in some stuffy conference room with civility. As an adult, I understand that there are times when one must act in a cordial manner, but then there are times that being cordial is not getting through or being effective. Thats when the old school part of me creeps out.

Hey Anthony, why dont you "fuk" off??
Most debtors are deadbeats and you know it. Sure, go ahead and use a credit card excessively THEN blame it on someone else when it comes time to pay up and you can't....or write a bunch of bad checks and let overdraft fees pile up then get mad at the collection agent or blame it on the bank.

Debtors always have someone else to blame...it's rarely their fault. Rarely do they own up to it being THEIR mistake or something THEY brought upon themselves.

DEBTOR=DEADBEAT

I was contacted by ASG last Friday. I returned their call as soon as I got the message. According to the receptionist, they did not have my name, nor could they locate my reference number, nor could they identify the person who called me. She then asked for my SSN to help locate the account. When I said I was uncomfortable disclosing that info, I was hung up on. I then received another call from ASG, different guy this time, saying I needed my legal represntatives to contact him. I had never received a phone call from this particular guy, though he insisted on leaving 3 messages before. Again I called ASG, and was again hung up on. I called back, and this time was put through to his voicemail. I've never received any written correspondence from ASG and don't know which account they are working with. I know I'm in debt and I know I have to pay it all off, but shouldn't they provide me with something more than two messages, one insuating legal action?
