did you get the name of all the companies that filed the fraudulent info on you? if you had the first thing you should have done is filed a complaint with the CBR'S and with the better business bureaus. take the info to your attorney general, but all of this wll take time, let the credit bureau know your are disputing the charges, that will give you a 30 day head start at least. other than that, keep a tab on all the money they keep making you spend i know i would.

Yup, I have everything on them. I did file with the BBB, but they lied and said it was a "mistake". I wasnt tho becasue one of the agents told me what they did - he was new and still had some respect. The BBB let it go because I had already gotten the crap off my report because I paid a lawyer by the time they got to my case.

This happened a while ago, and Im financially stable now but i always have a fraud alert on my credit so hopefully it doesnt happen again.

BTW, I was writing in bold so you could read my responses easier. The quote option never works for me.

You can also search web for cease and desist letters from your state and send each creditor a copy by certified mail and that will usually do the trick. Hope this helps

that is an error, sometimes, even i do it. we use a process called skip trace, when we look for all possible numbers for the debtor, however, every so often numbers that were previously removed happen to leak back in to the system.
i know its frustrating, but you should never feel scared about it. be firm in explaining that you never want another call from the company because the debtor doesn't live there

My number was never in the system. Ive never been sent to collections. The house was vacant for 5 years after I left. They did a property search and put my name to a bill that was set up 1 1/2 years after I left in a vacant house for gas that was never used or even turned on. I had never had any accounts with this comapny, nor had I heard of the company. The only thing I had to do with this property was a phone in my name for 3 months because I was staying there. They didnt call me despite the fact that they had had ALL of my accurate info including my address and phone number when they searched my credit file and filed negative reports on it.

I called the gas company and they had no name even close to mine in their system, nor did they have any active OR unpaid accounts for that address in 5 years.

They did a property search, found that I had had a phone at that address and put my name on a nameless bill. It was no mistake, it was intentional.

One of the collectors told me that the only information they had in their system was my address and phone nunber at my address 3 hours away from the place they were trying to say I was using gas from. My old phone number gave them my name, they pulled my credit file wich clearly stated that I didnt live there and hadnt for years, and decided I should be responsible for a bill that wasnt even real.

I couldnt tell them to stop calling because they didnt have the decency to tell me they wanted money and instead lied to the credit bureaus in hopes that i would pay them. In reality, If they had just called me and told me that they were going to screw up my life if I didnt give them money that not only I didnt owe, but nobody owed Id have probably paid them.

And even IF it is a mistake, they have NO right to lie to the bureaus or have your personal information on file without your knowleage or concent.

There is NO POSSIBLE WAY THAT THIS WAS A MISTAKE.

marlee jay---If you are as nice and sincere as your posts indicate, then you are definately in the minority in the collections world. Easy for you to say don't be scared. Take off those rose colored glasses. The majority of collectors are bullies. Thanks for being true to your career and self. If all collectors were like you this site would not be needed!

There are a few collectors on this site who have respect for others and thier job. It sux that all the collectors were not like this. Accually, If the government did anything about the illegal practices of some agencies, we wouldnt have a problem either.

All they have to do is say they dont have you in their records, or it was a mistake and they get away with it.

The other day I got a call from an attorney's office stating that I had 2 days to pay a large percentage of an outstanding credit card debt, otherwise the debt would be forwarded to the attorney himself and there would be attorney's fees and court costs tacked on, which would have doubled the amount of the debt. I scrambled and got some money together and paid part of it. My question is: is that true that they can tack on all those extra fees, or was it just a scare tactic by the collection agent? I'm not trying to avoid paying, I just want to know what my options are for dealing with that type of situation.

Yes, they can tack on extra fee's.

Think about it like this.. And remeber this is an example and has nothing to do with your character...

You hit someone with your car. Your insurance pays but the person you hit takes you to court for more damages and you lose. You can also be held liable for their attorney and court fee's as a result.

With that being said I would keep that letter and find out if your card is with a collection agency or an attorney's office. If it is with a collections agency I would seriously find out if they intended to follow through with that threat. If not then you have grounds in which to file a complaint and sue them for a fine.

Answer the call and tell them nothing - do not verify your address !!!!! Play with them - hey thats what they are doing to you. Ask if they are gay, fat, spanish, black, white. -- have fun with it - lose all your ethics then you my even get a job with them.
when i asked the male operator if he had ever seen one up close he hung up on me. Get all the smiles you can.
and if you pay who you owe and not them -- wow -- you have made them lose a little money or comission.
