Hi,
I took out a loan for $300 with Alpha Processing a few months ago. Right before I was due for payment my bank got overdrawn so they didn't get the money.

NO ONE called me to check up with me about paying, I can't find a website or phone # for them anywhere. A guy called me today saying I owe $805 by 4pm. He said I'm being charged with bank fraud! I asked him why no one called me sooner, told him I can't pay the $805 today and he got extremely rude with me. No offense to anyone, but he is foreign and I'm sorry I could barely understand anything he said.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one dealing with this! Can someone please tell me what I need to do? He gave me a hotline # but when I tried to call back, it will only let me speak to him and I refuse!

Please Please help me!

Yes there are. You will need to register with the forum and then I can pm you the information. No, they won't send you to jail. It's just a threat.

Threats of jail, court, and wage garnishment are common tricks that collectors try to use to get you to pay money in a panic. Take a deep breath. While they can, and might, take you to court, no one is going to show up at your door at 4:01 this afternoon to arrest you. If you make arrangements to pay them then they cannot take action against you as long as you are paying on time. Also, ask them to send you a debt validation so that you can see exactly what the additional $500 is for.

well, everytime i tried to ask a question this guy would interrupt me and say do i want them to take legal action. i could barely get a word in edgewise (spelling??). it was awful! i told him i was at work, could he please call my cell phone later today and i would be happy to talk with him them. he just got more rude. :/ it was terribly unprofessional, i could do nothing else but hang up on him. i thought i handled myself the best i could but i could not continue talking to him while i was at work. :/ thanks for the advice! both of you! it's literally making me feel sick!

When Anthony Galloway office of idiots called and threatened me with taking legal action, I told them to go ahead, everybody else is and he said the sheriffs office would be here at 4:00pm that afternoon. i said to him, good I need a vacation and by the way this conversation is being recorded and he called me every name in the book then hung up. I intern called the sheriffs deaprtment and requested a deputy to stop by and gave them the reason. The officer that responded took the tape recording and called them back and informed them that I was a true recording and charges would be filed against them. Haven't heard from them since. Wonder why? Could it be because they got caught? Yep I think thats a good answer.

fatgirl_ag05,

Collectors often use scaring tactics to squeeze money from debtors. This is not legally right. fdcpa does not allow them to do so. There is nothing to get scared I guess.

Consolidation could be a wise option for payday loans. It will relieve your troubles a lot. Your consolidator will handle collectors and creditors on your behalf and you need to pay one monthly installment for all your loans. Have a look-

Wow! Good for you! Well, this was the first time it's happened to me. I have caller id on my work phone, I didn't think at the moment to write the # down, I thought I was in serious trouble! But yeah, other than having to speak to that guy again by dialing his extension, I have no clue how to tell anybody the whereabouts or phone # for this company.

I feel you on the getting sick feeling. I was that way last weekend over one of my debts. Rationally I knew that the guy couldn't do what he threatened (PA is a no-garnish state) but I couldn't stop being nervous about it. All I can suggest is breathe deep, and when you start feeling scared, try to get angry instead. Getting angry will give you the impetus you need to do something about your situation, while being scared will encourage you to do something rash to remove the threat.

I just pm'd you with the information for the debt consolidation company. Keep everything documented because you can file complaints againt them. I've done so with three of my payday loan companies and they've backed off. One attorney general's office sent me a reply today and said they couldn't help me but forwarded my complaint to the FTC.

Bowen,

I think it's very easy to get upset over debt, especially after such a nasty call. Even after learning my rights, I still get upset and think they can throw the book at me. I just have to remember to calm down and breathe.

msmishle30, exactly. We're hardwired to get frightened when something threatens us, so when we get a phone call with someone telling us that we're going to jail, or we're getting sued, or our wages will be garnished, or our car is being reposessed immediately, we panic. More than once I've been panicked into making a payment in an amount I couldn't afford because the caller threatened me and I backed down. Now I know to stand my ground, and make a payment I can afford. If only I had learned to do this years ago! I just did the math tonight, and if I'm very careful, I could be out of debt completely, including my car, by this time next year! Wooo!
