Ok, I will concede that Chyna was not directly speaking of me. However, in my post I also used highlighting to try and get a point across. I now understand Chyna was stating SHE highlighted others (Stuarts?) comments in her email to trust UK. The original post was changed after my reply to delete the offending word.
Obviously a miscommunication or more specifically a misunderstanding on my part has taken place. Chyna, please accept my most humble and gracious apology.
Chyna is right, it is sad that both British and American authorities are trying to shrug responsibility off on each other rather that someone dealing with the issue at hand. It is because they lurk in this grey area that they are able to get away with doing what they do. To that extent, the only way to truly protect yourself is to read the fine print in the disclosure to see exactly where the transaction is deemed to have been executed and to know what jurisdiction the account will fall under.
Obviously, not taking out payday or short term loans in the first place is the best defense against these kinds of businesses. However, if you really have your back up against the wall and you have to do it, deal with a store front operation in your own town. At least then you know you are protected by your State and Federal laws.
Having done the payday thing a few times, the most humiliating thing was walking into that store and dealing with those people (luckily, the people I dealt with were very nice, though I don't know how nice they would have been had I defaulted).
Sometimes a little humility can teach the best lessons.
