Chexsystems is mainly used by banks before opening up new accounts, and everytime you write a check, for instance, somewhere you have never wrote one before,(grocery store, dept. store,) and they run it through the scanner, if it is a bad checking account, that scanner would notice that and not accept your check, but I think telecheck usually picks up on closed checking accounts.

I could be wrong about the telecheck thing, but I'm 95% sure about how the chexsystems thing works because I've been on it.

It's the bank routing number and account number that is usually getting scanned in the register. Not your name, or your social security number. Something is linked to the account number.

I would contact your financial institution. If you're in a new state, and have a new account number, then there shouldn't be anything tied to that check that would make it get returned to you.

Interesting, because I was unable to find a bank account in most places because of this check. I finally got one at BoA, 4 years later, but only after I applied at 4 other banks.

If you owe money to another bank, you won't be able to get another bank account anywhere.

What I was stating was that you should be allowed to write new checks if you have a new account. If you happened to bounce a check with Pizza Hut in New Hampshire, and ended up closing that account and moved to Nebreska, the new account you have there should not have any ties with your old account. Especially if its a different bank/name.

Usually when you move out of state and get a new account, you're required to get a driver license in the state you reside in.
