Has anyone ever heard of these folks? I received a notice from them recently and am wondering if they can collect. The debt is at least 7 years old and I live in VA

First National Collection Bureau, Inc.
230 S. Rock Blvd Reno, NV 89502 Phone Number: 775-829-3790 Fax Number: 775-829-3795 According to the BBB, they have an unsatisfactory record, so just be careful with them. I have never dealt with them myself, but they have lots of complaints against them through the BBB. Don't pay them anything until you check the SOL in your state, because if you do that will start the SOL over. Send them a validation letter, then find out the SOL in your state, if it is out of the SOL...you can send them a letter saying so, or just dispute it with the credit bureau if they have reported it, and it will have to be removed. |

How do you find out what the sol of each state is? I live in VA, so if anyone knows what it would be, I'd appreciate the info

SOL for written agreements in VA is 5 yrs., for contracts promissory it is 6 yrs. from the time of the last activity on the account.

Joyfordream, this debt is past the SOL period. Do not make any activity in this account with a payment from your side. Have you checked your credit report recently? Since this debt is 7 years old, I am assuming that this account must have fallen from your file also. The FCRA laws state that negative information stays in the file for 7 years only (except bankruptcy and some others as well).
If you run a credit check, you might find this account off from your report. The date is calculated from the period it was reported delinquent. If you make any sort of payment or sign a promissory note, this account will surely come under the SOL period and will also confirm its stay in your file for the next seven years. Your defense is to write a dispute letter to the agency explaining the reasons of your non-payment. Clearly state that this debt is out of the SOL period and as per the latest credit check, this account is past the 7 years mark in your credit report. As a result, you are not willing to pay this debt presently. Send your dispute in writing through certified mail with return receipt requested. This is your proof to the actions taken in resolving this matter. |

I recently called this debt collector First national Collection Bureau, and found out that it was not registered with BBB. It was given to me by Chex system. I need to pay this debt which is delinquent with a bank account I had in the past. This collection agency wants me to send the payment in. What should I do?

Nicki,
First know if First National Collection Bureau is authorized for this collection. Under the federal laws, they are required to put the details in writing given by your bank. Do not make any payment until you have verified the debt account. Know more about the debt validation concept. It is a powerful weapon used to fight against the shady practices of the CAs. Have you talked with your bank regarding this account? You can work out arrangements with them. If they accept payments directly, you won't have to deal with the collection agency. |

The Statute of limitations in New York is 4 years based on the date of last payment. I will insist you to confirm the statutes with your attorney general office.

I just received a letter from First National Collection Bureau stating I owe Credigy Receivables $3400. The letter had my name and my city and state but an address I've never lived at before. What should I do? I've never heard of Credigy Receivables.

Dora,
The letter sent to you doesn't give the information that validates the debt. You need to send a letter disputing the information and request the following things mentioned at the FTC website. http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm#809 |

I just received a letter from First National about an old repo I had. If my State's SOL has run out and I know that this is not on my credit report any longer, should I even bother responding to their collection letter? My debt is just about 10 years old. Thanks.
