Can a debt consolidation company do some kind of search that finds all of my loans, private and federal? Because I think i had 3 different lenders in my undergrad, and a couple more in law school.. I never really worried about any of them because it was all deferred but my life circumstances have changed and i need to take some time off.. So basically i have no clue where all I borrowed money from:/

Also, are there any debt consolidators that can consolidate credit card debt, private students loans, and my federal student loans all into one payment? Probably not, that would be too convenient:/

You might have to shop for a consolidation company that can combine all these debts into one monthly payment. I am not sure if private student loans can be consolidated with the credit card debts.

Generally, we are requested to get all the latest statements and the list of creditors while discussing with the consultant. It gets convenient for him to plan a payment. If you don't have the necessary info, you can request the consultant for the needful.

You can get all that account and lender info from the financial aid department of the schools you attended!

If you are looking to consolidate all of your student loans, the company that you wish to consolidate with can find all of your loans on NSLD. They are able to view who you have all of your loans with and the balances of the loans as well. They can even contact the lenders if they need to verify exactly how much you owe each of them. Rememeber that you CANNOT consolidate loans while "in-school status" after July 1st I believe. So if you are looking to consolidate, get started on the process now. I hope this was of some help.

I got news for you folks. My husband racked up $119k in student loans for a law degree. I consolidated them all in early 2004 with Sallie Mae and we've been paying ever since. This week, out of the blue, we were contacted by DOE for an unpaid $3k plus interest that we didn't know about and that SM did not find. They don't always find them all.

Now we're looking for some company who can refinance ~$30k of the private loans because they are at 10.5 and 8.75%. Can't find anyone.

I'll probably be dead before these loans are paid off.

What happened is when Sallie Mae rounded up all the loans for consolidation, they missed that one. Now that that one little loan is in default, it can't be included in the consolidation, it would have to be rehabilitated.

Sallie Mae®, the nation's leading provider of student loans and administrator of college savings plans, has helped millions of Americans achieve their dream of a higher education. The company primarily provides federal and private student loans, including consolidation loans, for undergraduate and graduate students and their parents.

Sallie Mae owns or manages student loans for nearly 10 million customers, administers more than $11 billion in college savings accounts for 1 million customers through its Upromise subsidiary and employs approximately 12,000 individuals at offices nationwide.

Sallie Mae was originally created in 1972 as a government-sponsored entity (GSE). The company began privatizing its operations in 1997, a process it completed at the end of 2004 when the company terminated its ties to the federal government.

Sallie Mae is listed on the Fortune 500 and is one of the Top Innovators in IT according to InformationWeek. The company also has been recognized as one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens according to Business Ethics magazine and one of the top 30 companies for executive women by the National Association of Female Executives.
