I too received a letter on Jan 5 dated, Dec 30, post marked Jan 4, from Credit Partnership stating that they were closing. Even though they did pay three of my smaller debts over the course of 3 years, my biggest one for over $2K was not paid (as I asked in May of 05') because Mr. Troy Hall, who owned Credit Partnership, advised my debt counselor that they would not settle for a 90% payoff; which is what my creditor at the time was requesting. Credit Partnership closed their doors taking $3K of my money with them.
The letter received from them does state to contact the CA State Bar, however, after looking up how to do this on the CA State Bar website; it's not easy task. You must first file a complaint with the Bar and then, IF it's approved (which could take up to a year) then you need to file for a refund through their Client Security Fund. Even so, the burden of proof is upon you. You must have proof that you were defrauded and that you are owed money.
Thank you, however, for the other suggestions to contact the AG and BBB, and filing a police report. If we all stick together and fight this one, something is bound to happen in our favor!
