I have 14 "Promotional Inquiries" and 14 "account review inquiries" dating back to 4/2004. Can I get these removed? and do they hurt my credit? can I make them stop checking my credit?
7 of the "account review inquires" are from Cavalry Portfolio beginning in 4/2004 to 8/2005. This is a debt I am disputing.

Kathryn, the Promotional Inquiries do not hurt your credit. I would not worry about those. The account review inquires may have an impact. Are these inquiries a result of you applying for credit? If so, they cannot be removed (until it is time for them to) and they do impact your credit. Lots of inquiries like these in a short amount of time is seen as a risk factor on your credit. Who is Cavalry Portfolio? Do you currently have an account with them? Or have you applied for credit with them? The answers to these questions will help shed some light on the situation.

They contacted me by phone last year and said they purchased a charged off Providian account. I told them I had paid Providain off in a home refinance and sent them the canceled check and the letter from the title company stating the check was for payment in full of the account. I had not heard from them since, but when I checked my credit report, they are listed as a collection account as of March 2006.

File disputes with all three credit reporting agencies. You should get some satisfaction that way.

I believe they will need to have a signature from you to validate the inquiry...I have to pull applications from people here at work all the time--Who've been declined financing through Wells, and then they want to dispute it on their CR...

Kathryn, I am still not 100 percent sure I understand what is going on with your report. However, it sounds like Cavalry now holds one of your accounts. As such, they do have a right to review your credit report. Still, these should not be lumped into the same category as inquiries prompted by you applying for credit.
