Ellis Crosby refused payment arrangement

I recived a call for Michael from Ellis Crosby & Asso today. He said that if I did not send him $2,000 by 2Pm today, he would notify the State Atty's office and they would charge me with Internet fraud for taking out 4 payday loans. I tried to offer a payment arrangement but he would not hear of it and he kept talking over me and yelling at me. In the end I had to hang up on him. So I am not sure what do at this point. Since he refused a payment arrangement.

Worried.

Ellis Crosby and Associates are currently under investigation for unethical practicing. Please rest assured that they are in trouble for their threatening ways.

Chances are your debt will be sold to another collection agency. You may want to deal with them, or try dealing directly with the lender if they'll do so.

If go back to "how to deal with collection agencies" from the main forum you can read all about the troubles that Ted Ellis Crosby & Associates are in.

Please don't be worried...

humm is there even such a crime as internet fraud, seeing as how the internet is unregulated?? sounds like an empty threat, which as you read the many other posts about Ellis Crosby on these forums, you'll see that's all they do. Threaten and bully, and hope you'll cave and give them what they want.

However, having just escaped from the night mare of payday loans, I would reccommend you get them paid off as fast as you can and try very hard never to use them again. While it may satisfy and immediate need, payday loans can quickly cause an even worse situation to develop.

As I have read over the past few days, I wonder how people are getting 4,7, as many as 13 payday loans?? in my state you can have only one loan at a time.. they check your name against a state data base.

Alot of these companies are Canadian based, but say their company is based out of Ireland, or Germany, or etc. I don't think they have the tools to check. Especially internet loan people.

Now the local loan places, the "write us a check and we'll hold it" can check.

I still don't understand how ECA is conducting business. Wasn't he suppose to be in court today (or sometime this week)?

He has to have a weird sense of thinking. Because I'm sure if I thougth that I wasn't breaking the law I'd keep going and going and going, just so I wasn't asked why I stopped come court time.

But seriously...how can he not know that threatening arrest is not wrong. I can just imagine the stress level of some people.

I wish there was a way to contact the prosecution. Maybe then they could hear our complains and make sure these idiots never work again.

By the way, there is something called Internet Fraud. Just because the internet may be officially "unregulated" there are still international treaties and US laws that govern the servers and services produced on US controlled territory.

I'm a bit of a tech-geek myself, and I have been to a few briefings regarding the internet architecture and implementation of IPv6. Hopefully they implement some built-in security features like domain control (ie. only letting commercial entites register a .com, and only letting networks register a .net, etc etc). and providing functionality to deal with these sort of issues in real-time.

Back to ECA, I think they have some courage to continue their track of agressive collections while they're in the spotlight. I think that shows right there the character of these people.

After I read this post I did a google search for "internet fraud" and you rare correct there is such an animal. But from What I found, It has nothing to do with Payday loans via the internet, or things of that nature, but rather deals with scams, such at the Nigerian scam, SPAM, and phishing. Sill was apparently a scare tactic by Crosby Ellis.

From the orignal post, in sounds like CEA is making internet fraud out to be like Mail or wire fraud, and it seems, as of yet, it is not regarded in that light.

They're STILL making calls? It's like they're trying to get the last laugh or something. If they are in court today, they're really dumb to still be harassing people.

Contact the Federal Trade Commission as well as Florida's Attorney General, since Ellis is based out of Florida.

PLEASE DONT WORRY! You're not alone! And they're threats are moot---they're trying to upset you! You havent done anything wrong--THEY have!

You'd be suprised what they could consider Internet Fraud these days. Keep in mind that a lot of crimes aren't categorized for the internet yet, so lawyers/prosecution try to tie them to existing crimes and violations. If your intention was to take out multiple payday loans and not repay them ... that would be internet fraud. But I highly doubt that is the case.

In my opiniom, it would be very hard to prove a consumer committed fraud because he got behind on a couple of payments. It's one thing if you intended to take the money and run with it to be never heard from again, but you cant do that with payday loans. They know everything about you, your name, SS#, home address, phone number, office number and address, bank info, etc. They verify this information before they loan you the money. Ellis Crosby is just using the "internet fraud" as a intimidation tactic to scare you into believing you committed a crime, when in fact you have not.

Sadly, they are still making calls because for every person who finds this web site and realizes that they are operating illegally, there are countless more who pay and continue to pay out of fear and ignorance.

I am not advocating anyone not paying their bills. We should all endevour to pay our bills and improve our credit ratings. But, I wouldn't pay these clowns a dime! I am so thankful I have not had the displeasure of dealing with them!

This website is a fantastic resourse for those who have to deal with illegal collection practices!

I don't have the slightest doubt that this website will be a huge and valuable resource of all the useful information necessary for the consumers.

It is possible just because of the contributions of our community members who have included this noble work in their daily life. We all should unite together and spread the message extensively.

Thanks ttthayden for focusing on it.
