hi, there i once worked with encore,,, i realized that if the collector offer you 6 months payment arrangement please do not bite that opportunity might as well tell them that you are currently in a financial crisis and ask them if they can offer you financial hardship program for 6 months and then after completing this financial hardship for 6 months, immediately enrolle your account to 40 months financial hardship..trust me collection calls will stop so long as you will pay the computed amount for this financial hardship program. =). just a tip......

When u go to bed at night turn your phone off...Remember this ladies and gentlemen...It's your phone in your home in your name.. You don't have to answer it..And if your do and its them (((HANG IT UP))))!!!!!Don't banter back and forth with these people... One day they will be in our shoes too .. I was asked to run a company like this and I told him NO as I have been on the other end of these phone calls and I don't like the way they talk to people and for me I would rather give someone money to help then to hurt themm. I pray that you are all blessed in your finances and one day we will not be on here.. But till then seek the one who can help us....

In response to Molly and everyone else. If you get into a hardship all you have to do is call the collection agency and they will work out a payment plan with you. They do understand that life happens but if you do not inform them then how do they know? I understand the debt validation letter but really? If you know that you owe the debt then why make the collector jump thru the hoops? If the collection agency validates the debt you still owe it. So if you know that in the 1st place own up to it. Take responsibility for your actions and spending.

Why? Even if you know you owe a debt to say Chase, how do you know that Generic Collection Company actually bought the debt? So what if they say you owe them...the last you knew you owed Chase.

Its a sad fact that because of unethical and illegal collection agencies and debt purchasers, people have to be very careful in dealing with these companies.

Also because of this, once a company validates then it is fine to negotiate a payment arrangement, just make sure it is in writing, never, ever accept an oral agreement. If the company says they can't send something in writing until after you pay, DON'T DO IT. That is a huge red flag. If a company was going to honor an agreement, they would have no problem putting it in writing.
