I receive about 6-7 calls from the number 18668026984. After about 15 seconds of me babbling just now about how I will trace the number and call the police the man said the machine was not working and he could not hear my voice. He said his name was Mark from Encore. He said he needs to speak to my father and it is a business matter. I took the number and hell no am I calling back. They are total fakes.

Ok so here goes.

I have an over due account with Dell finacial services for $2700 and some change. I know this debt is mine and intend to pay it off. I received a letter from Encore in May stating that Dell Finacial sent my account to them for collection and that the balace of $2700 was due imediatley.

I am in the process of getting all my bills caught up and my parents are willing to pay off this debt completely for me. So we called encore yesterday and talked to Mark Clein asking if they would honor a $2400 settlement for the entire balance. He put me on hold for a bit and eventually came back on the line and stated that would be acceptable. I asked for a letter stating that "Dell account #***** with a balance of $2700 is being settled in full for $2400. He agreed that was acceptable and it seemed it was going well. I then told him my parents wanted to over night a cashiers check to them and he said that was not possible. He insisted that it had to be a Check over the phone. I have read that in no way should you ever give these creeps any account info. So in the end I told him thats the only way my parents are willing to do it and he said I better get a lawyer and a whole lot more that $2400 to pay for court cost then hung up.

My mother actually got ahold of dell and is in the process of trying to pay them the total ammount due. We are waiting for them to call her back from there account dept.

Any advice on what should be done here? I just find it amazing that I have cash in hand and they won't take it?

THanks in advance.

Get a written agreement on their letterhead before paying them a dime. It appears as if they want your parents banking information to clean out their account. Tell them that you will send them the cashiers check AFTER you receive the settlement letter; if they still refuse, tell them to take you to court, the judge will probably dismiss the case when you tell him they refused a cashiers check for the debt.

Encore call me at my job . Just stating that they were a
collection agent . They wanting me to give them some
personal information . I ask them for what reason . I did not
know what they were talking about they would not give me
the name of the company that say I owe them. I told them that they had no right to call my place of employment . They also call my home .
I call them back trying to find out about this matter . I did not
give them any personal information until they tell me what company they are representing. What can I do about this

Lot.....Encore does have a right to call you at your job until you tell them specifically not to call you at your place of employment.

Do you owe a debt?? Some CA's will not give any information until they verify that you are in fact the person they are looking for....that is to protect privacy. Call them back to find out what they want.....then tell them specifically not to call you at work and to send you a letter.

I turned to collecting when finding a job started getting hard. Ive been collection for a while and it is the hardest job I have ever done. Sometimes I cant stand hearing the heartbreaking stories I do hear. But right now collecting pays well. But Im going to leave and the things we say on the phone are the only things we are aloud to say. If we say anything else we get in trouble in my oppion thats why we sound fake but thats what DFS wants us to say.

well good for you.you violate the fdcpa and break other laws in collecting and i'm supposed to feel sorry for you?or was this an attempt to shove your occupation in our faces?either way thanks to this forum and others like it the money an illegal piece of compost like yours makes is dwindling.i'm happy for that.i personally would rather deliver pizzas than do what you do,but that's just me.

No I didnt voilate the fdcpa, I followed them. Some of these people didnt and they get fired for it. So dont worry if your called and someone 'volates' those laws, consiquences do face them. I dont need a arrogant person like you to tell me what im doing wrong or even attempt to feel sorry for me. I dont need anyone to feel sorry for me. I was feelin bad for everyone else who wrote on this page with problems from my employer. So when your comin back at me like that, it makes me regret thinking that. I felt like i was the most understanding person there. I got yelled at by my managers because I am so nice. So Please if Im writing in here that I got out of this place, please dont come back at me like im a horrible person when Im not. Im just like everyone else, just doing and job and tryin to get through life like everyone else. But the worst thing that alot of people dont know is, when You dont pay your bills, your just make the demand for collectors even higher.

P.S. I quit yesterday. After reading this page it made me want to quit even more than b4. If you have any questions that you would like to kno about Encore Just ask

Remember everyone that we are all down here under this big blue sky. There is not one of us who is not trying to make it in this crazy world. Let us all just calm down and be still.
