Call blocking doesn't work. We use computer dialers that call out using tons of numbers that are encoded to display the same number on caller ID. It's alot more hassle to try and dodge and fight than to look at what you can do to get rid of us. I'm betting your both fairly delinquent...like 3-4 months or more. Ask for a settlement if you can afford it and get it split in 3 payments. Settlement means you pay to the penny what you charged no interst and no fees.

Marilyn,

Talk to your phone company in this matter. You might be able to get this number blocked.

First off about the phone calls. You have to request in writing that the company not call you more than once in a 24 hour period. You can state the exact time, but most of the companies find ways of getting around this. If you record the conversations and they harass you by cursing or even making a threat, you should IMMEDIATELY take the recorded conversation to an attorney or the FTC. The collection company will have to remove any and all information they have supplied to credit bureaus, forfeit their license as a collection company, pay fines to the FTC in excess of $50,000 for each violation, plus pay punitive or general damages to you in the amount of $1000.00 per charged violation.

Encore is pretty bad, but believe there are worse ones out there.

these people are calling me also, several times a day and when I call the number back, they don't even say who they are and I haven't received a letter in the mail from them either, so I am not talking to them.

You don't have to talk to collectors if you don't want to. When I was in a financial farce because my ex was throwing out my mail, leaving me ignorant to my own financial farce, I settled with the original creditor for less than what the collectors wanted. Yes, it did leave one black mark on my credit report, but the score is good (712) and no collector had the sick pleasure of adding spoilers to his dink-lengthening car at my expense. Commissions are a nice incentive, don't get me wrong. When I collected student loans, I maintained my dignity and that of the borrowers, and I could take pride in recieving bonus checks for the fact that I rehabilitated enough loans to help people rebuild their credit and financial security. The job I just quit, collecting payday loans, bank cards, and med bills was just an office of bloodthirsty pirates who got bonus checks on the backs of people who were just barely scraping by. There is no pride in that and I hated it. Too depressing and the fricking manager was a complete basket case!

You can send them a cease and desist letter. Do you know why they are calling?

Or you can bust their balls very time. If you don't own a fax machine, get a police whistle, a blowhorn, or a whoopie cushion. Your choice of course. Encore is just retarded, they are also so full of you know what that they can be smelled from miles around, and by the way, if it really is you they are looking for, don't pay them jack because you will never know where exactly your money is going.

I got a letter here while back from Capitol One apolozing for the conduct of Encore Receviable Management. All Cap 1 was doing was covering their butts.

Cap 1 is crud. I canceled my two accounts with them because their service stinks. My USAA is much better, so is my Chase. I haven't decided whether or not to toss my HSBC. Haven't used them in over a year.

Well then they are wasting their time and money, not to mention embarassing themselves since you have proof that the account is in consolidation.
