A collection agency that informed me that they are handling my debt collection has been calling several times per week. They have also called what they call my contacts. Is there a letter I can write to have them stop calling myself & the contacts? I have been in contact with them recently & had set up certain amount of payment for 3 months then we would go from there.
The original agreement was to pay with automatic deduction from my bank account. However I don't think I trust them knowing so much of my business. If I tell them I wish to pay with a cashiers check & they refuse that offer is my bill then considered paid? Can they refuse a payment if it is not their terms or way?
If they stopped bugging me so much I would feel better about paying the bill. I do intend to pay the debt, but cannot pay large amounts or even the same amount each month. My pay is not the same each pay period. Somehow they don't seem to understand that if I could afford to I would pay the whole thing off in the first place & that I still have to feed family & pay other bills. Do these collectors get some sort of commission for what the collect each month? If so no wonder they are so ruthless.
Also when they do send a statement the balance never reflects a decreased total. The person I spoke with last said she could offer to lower the total by half, but I never got that in writing & it has not reflected that way on the statements of the past 3 months. Are they scamming me? What can I do to make sure the money I send is actually going to pay down this debt? Can I send payment to the original service provider? If so how can I be sure they are putting the money toward that debt? This is very overwhelming for me, but still trying to get it paid off.
I would like some guidance to what is legal for me to require from them if anything. I have been reading some of the other Q & A's on here, but nothing seems to fit my situation.
Thank you for any help you can be.
I am sitting down now to try to compose a letter to them.
