I am not home much, but this number has filled my voicemail box to the brim with same recording msg. I am on the "Do not call" list; will it do any good to report them?

This is a collections agency not a telemarketer. The do-not-call list will not help you. However, if you answer when the call....or call back if you want to....you can tell them not to call and they cannot after that. Tell them to ONLY send you information in writing.

When dealing with any collection agency you MUST get all agreements IN WRITING before a single payment is made. Make sure their letters are on company letterhead and, preferably, signed by someone from the agency. If they renege on the agreement, immediately file a complaint with the FTC, BBB and Consumer Protection Agencies. Believe it or not, consumers have more rights than these guys do, it's just that they count on consumers not being aware of the laws.

Do these collectors get some sort of commission for what the collect each month? If so no wonder they are so ruthless.
Also when they do send a statement the balance never reflects a decreased total. The person I spoke with last said she could offer to lower the total by half, but I never got that in writing & it has not reflected that way on the statements of the past 3 months. Are they scamming me? What can I do to make sure the money I send is actually going to pay down this debt? Can I send payment to the original service provider? If so how can I be sure they are putting the money toward that debt? This is very overwhelming for me, but still trying to get it paid off.
I would like some guidance to what is legal for me to require from them if anything. I have been reading some of the other Q & A's on here, but nothing seems to fit my situation.

I am sitting down now to try to compose a letter to them.

they called my work. that's a NO NO, isn't it? I don't know who they're calling for as they didn't exactly say. i work in my department but so do many others. i noticed the 866 number and googled it just to see who it was.

I keep getting calls from another number who claims they are with Focus Receivables Management, LLC., out of Marietta, Georgia. The number I am told to call is: 866-915-2509 and ask for extension #6472. You reach no one when you call this number. When they call you, it is always a taped message from a man with very strong Indian accent claiming his name is Rahim Kareshi and that his boss is Harun Hashimi. (There are real people who have these names, who are totally innocent and unaware their names are being used.) These are fraudulent phone calls, and according to a Manager at the real Focus Receivables, LLC., there are no such people working for them. They also do not have the phone number of: 866-915-2509. I spoke with FRM today, and their phone number is 888-379-9266, also, per Internet, they have phone numbers: 678-228-0000 and also 877-362-8766, however, I never got anyone to answer on those two numbers. Whoever these fraudulent persons are, they know personal info on your finances, and are nasty, rude, threatening, if spoken to live which I have done, twice. They knew info on credit card and exact balance; no idea how they got it, but do not give out any info to these people if you are told to call them back at 866-915-2509, even without extension #6472. These are impersonators and the collection agency claims were extremely shocked to hear about these calls.

I just got a call today asking me to call back 866-664-2513 ext 2239 with a file number regarding a loan. They identified themselves as a debt collector. The person had an accent, maybe from the Carribean? I have not called back based on the above mentioned responses as it sounds sketchy. They did not name me specifically in the call so I have no idea if it was really intended for me or not. Very strange.
