Asset Acceptance LLC - Fraudulent Auto Loan

I received a letter from Asset Acceptance attempting to collect on a car loan. If it were not for such a huge amount, I would find this amusing. Any carloan I ever had has long since been paid off and the last car I paid cash for. They are offering to give me a 70 % discount on an amount of $13,849 so supposedly I only have to pay them $4,154.99. The referred me to paymybill.com to pay it. No explanation of whom I supposedly owe the money to, no specifics at all.

I am furious about this. There is a contact phone number on the letter, but I am certainly not going to contact them via phone. Any communications I am going to have with them will be in writing via certified letter. Any suggestions on what specifically say to them in writing would be most appreciated.

Seems to me this company is attempting a huge scam and they have just picked the wrong person to pull this on.

Hope this helps! I would recommend getting this letter out tomorrow, or as soon as possible, to show that you are actually disputing the debt.

jenny, if they are a collection agency, they are required to send you ONE letter stating who they are, who the original creditor is (if not them), and how much you owe. that is all the letter is required to state. the letter mike wants you to mail is laughable and collection agencies are NOT required to respond to all of the requested information within the letter.

If you browse this forum as well as the internet for sample debt validation letters, you will get the same type of information requested by the consumers from the collection agencies. However, most of the CA's don't respond to each and every point mentioned in the letter. But it is necessary for them to do so as it is clearly itemized in the FTC website too.

Many people in this forum have used the sample letters and have got positive results out of it. So, I assume that the collection agencies stay in the best of their behavior when these types of letters are given the legal front.

this company is FRAUD/SCAM, CALL: 800 807 4205 to report this company so they can be shut down.
its a company that paid for peoples information and uses it against them, usually an old account they hoped you had forgotten about... all in all this is a scam and should be reported!
