we recieved a call for an adult son about a " minor business matter" and a phone number was left for our son to call. He no longer lives here, and is 29yrs old. obviously its a debt collector coming after him from debt he had over 6 years ago....is this a "good company " to work with, or not. Im not understanding the dialog in the above entries. its 1-800-741-2100.

NCO financial has a nasty habit of reporting later than actual dates regarding credit report entries. This makes the entries stay longer than they actually should by law.

Laruh -

The number comes up as LTD Financial, Houston and San Antonio, TX. Website is ltdfin.com

If the account is more than six years old, my guess is that you/son are hearing from a junk debt buyer, either directly [LTD} or indirectly [hired LTD]. Either way, something smells funny to me. More info from you might change that opinion, or might not.

My bottom line is this: Without proper validation, it doesn't matter whether they're good to work with or not. No validation, no money, no how. Clear?

Have your son send them a validation letter. There's a good one here: http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com...structure.html

Holler if you/he get stuck, OK?

I'm ASSUMING that you cannot PROVE that NCO is reporting things later than they should. Gosh.....I wonder............does the SOL start from the date the debt was 'aquired'..or..from the date that the debt was reported to the CB? Always been alittle 'fuzzy' on this.

SOL starts from the day you last did anything on the account. That could be a payment, a promise to pay, or a charge.

Case in point: When I was chatting with the bimbo from Regurgent, I asked for DOLA. She gave me two dates. One for the last purchase, and another for the last [fabricated by them] payment. SOL would start from the later of the two.

In my case, it's all good. SOL has run years ago. So they're the other kind of SOL.

Thanks for getting back to my post so quickly. I believe the debt my son accured (sp?) is from medical bills from a snowboard accident, to possibly lawyer fees not paid...not sure. I dont like being called and questioned about where he is, whats his phone number, etc, but they "cant" tell you what the reason for their call is...sorry, im not giving up his info. find him! /so do you think this co. just bought his name from another collection agencie and now they want to go after him?

You oughtta tell your son they're calling, and give him their contact info. Otherwise, they're likely to keep calling everybody they think might know where he is. Once they make initial contact with him, they're required to stop calling anyone else.

In your place, I would not give them his contact info, or even admit that I'd ever seen him. Keep his options open. The CA is only supposed to call you [or anyone else] one time as part of trying to find him. Some CAs ignore that, and keep calling. A certified/RRR cease-and-desist letter should stop them from calling you, but they'll still call other folks.

In his place, I'd call them. From a pay phone, to keep my number off their records. I'd ask for this information:

1 - Original creditor
2 - Account number
3 - DOLA
4 - Balance
5 - Their full contact information

I would not answer any questions, or give them any information about myself, including my address. They'lll demand an address, phone numbers, etc. Don't give it. They may bluster or threaten. Ignore it, or just hang up. All he needs is the info I've listed, especially items 1, 2, and 5. With that, he has enough information to send them a letter demanding validation of the dabt and limiting their communications to him only, through the mail. I suggest something like this letter. Tell him to send it certified mail, return receipt requested. That way, he can prove they got it.

I have 10 years experience in debt servicing. Please let me set you all straight. The industry looks at anycollection company who sells their non recoverable debt to another cllection is a ****.If you cant collect it the first time, the second time is either fruitless or horific to the consumer.
When you get a collection call or letter always ask for proof of the debt you owe.Place the ball in their court and place the burden on them.If the agency is ethical they will work with you in locating and proving the debt and setteling it with you.The ****s of the industry just harass. If they are the latter, get the name of the credit/collections manager and their name.invoke in a registered letter the fair debt and collection act.Where the only communication is in writing period with the collection agency.Pull your credit report from all three agencs.By federal law you can get them for free once a year.Always check on the age of the debt and check with your state attorneys office and get the statue of limitations on debt collecting on secured and unsecured debt, they can be different from state to state.
Next if the debt is past the statute of limitations.Write the following to the collector.
I have been in touch with the state attorneys office this debt is not mine.It is past the state stateute of limitations.Old debts do not impact our overall fico score as do recent ones.
I hope this has been a help. Please do not scam an agency be honest. This above info is for you in a legit situation when you know you are right.Pay off your debts. If you have a hard time paying debts right now call the company and ask for the hardship desks. You will be surprised how many compoanies will work with you to avoid collection placement.Any company pays up to 50% to recover past due accounts.Thats why they would work with you before things can get ugly.
Again hope this helps
frank
