Back in the day people would pull this same game and they were called a confidence man, now in the internet age it's the same thing but with a wrinkle and that is it is very easy for these types to make their plays and move on well before the law even hears about it. These cats operate all over the globe and most of the time the law can't even touch them so in saying all this....KEEP YOUR BANK ACCOUNT OR WALLET CLOSED. As the age old saying goes if it seems to good to be real then it generally is a scam.

One other note in this day and time no bank will make a loan unless u have pretty decent credit and it makes it hard for people in debt trying to get out but the best solution is work and pay them out, most creditors would perfer some money as to no money and they can't kill u or even eat you. I think the days of easy credit and loose money are coming to an end.....

Said that I was approved for 20,000 but I needed to "Secure" the loan by making the first 5payments now 1,150 in order for them to forward my money to me.I am very lery of this and have not done it yet. Can someone please help and tell me if this is a legitimate company or not.

Kristen--Don't do it. No legitimate loan company will make you pay upfront for a loan.

Almost scammed by Horizon Lending Services. Filed report on ripoff.com. No information on internet about them except my report. Must be a new scam company or old one with new name. Usual scenario. Will lend $5000 with $900 upfront cost. I reported to Illinois state gov't consumer agency. That's where they have address listed Chicago Illinois.

I was contacted by a Mr. David White saying I was approved for a loan I applied for on the internet. I would need to secure the loan (for 5000.00) with an 800.00 deposit. After six months this deposit would be refunded or I could use it to make payments. The rate was fixed at 7% for 4 years. Sounded great - TOO GREAT. They wanted a copy of my drivers license, social security card and pay stub and my signature on the loan app. That made me nervous since you have no idea who you are talking to. I'm so glad I found this site!!!!If it's sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!!!!!

I have yet to borrow money from a private lender for secured loans, but my little sister did recently. Just last week Sept. 5, 2008 she applied for a Secured loan for $10,000 through Westbrook-Financial (Westbrook-Financial.com). She was seeking a loan to pay for school related necesities. Westbrook supposidley matches the borrower with a private lender. The lender still has yet to be revealed. Westbrook's terms are as follows: Depending on how much money one wants to borrow, will determine how much the down payment will be. In her case she had to proove to them that she could come up with the first five payments which amounted to $789. When she initially sent in the down payment, she was told that she would be would be receiving a payment booklet in the mail and also the dispursement of th loan in full within 4-6 hours of them receiving the payment. It has now been a whole week and daspite her continuos efferts to make contact with Salina Tutt (Loan Agent), she has not received the loan dispursent and or a returned phone call or email regarding the agreement. When she calls the "24 hour" call center the calls are screened. The automated service automatically asks "who's speaking". Isn't that weird!!! Which means that her number obviously has been put on a list to not be answered. She did get through to someone once and when asked for her name, she was then immediately forwarded top the main voice mail system. Once again how weird!!!That $789 was her last and now she is left with nothing. She ws planning to use some of the loan money to buy books, but now she will have to drop her classes for this semester.

She needs to file a complaint with the FTC and her state attorney generals office. OMG! I feel for her! PEOPLE - KNOW THAT ANY LOAN COMPANY THAT REQUIRES A DOWN PAYMENT IS A SCAM! DO NOT DO IT AND REPORT THEM!

I just tried that website post, but nothing came up. In her loan documents does it say where they (Westbrook) is located? What state, country?

The company Secore told me that I was approved for $5,000 but I have to send $800.00 first before I could receive the $5,000. Are they legal I couldn't find anything through the Better Business Bureau?

Any loan that requires that you pay to receive a loan is a scam. This is called an "Advance Fee Scam." Think about it, if you were to go to a local bank, would they charge you money to GET money? NO!

Go to the BBB and you will see that they have warnings about this type of thing.

I would report it to the FTC and your state AG office. Hopefully, they will shut them down.
