Hospital and CA are confusing me, how to remove negatives

Does a creditor have a certain amount of time to let a person know that they owe money? Short story....I found out I had cancer in 1999 I never received a statment from the hospital letting me know I owed $282 they turned it over to a collection agency in I think 2000 or 2001 but I never heard from the CA either. Come to find out both were sending the collection letters and statments to a address that I had not lived at for 7 years. I didn't have a clue I owed this hospital any money. As soon as I found out I paid them. Now I'm being told by the hospital that it is up to the CA to remove the neg statments off my report and the CA tells me its up to the hospital to remove it?? Anyone have any advise?

You need to send a dispute letter to the credit bureaus explaining the amount has been paid in full on whatever date the debt was paid and they will investigate the matter.

Brat is right. You should dispute the item with credit bureau. Supply whatever document you have. Bureau will run an investigation and update your file accordingly.

Anyway, did you pay the amount to the hospital or you paid it to CA? it is their responsibility to update your report who received the payment I think. Since they are playing game with you, let the bureaus handle this issue.
