Mitchell Kay is NOT even on my credit report, however...I continue to get letters from them ( stating my MINOR son owns this debt). I know I told my 'story' earlier in the thread. Trying to call them does no good. What should I do?

Don't EVER pay to collection agencies. Contact the company that you owe the money to. Work out an agreement with them and have them contact their debt collector and schedule a conference call with the 3 of you. Get it all straightened out before you send a penny to anyone. Trouble is, when you pay a debt collector you have no idea if the debt has been sold again and again to different debt collectors. These bad debts remain on your credit report forever unless you get it right the first time. I speak from experience!!!! I got a home improvement loan to pay off debts amount to around $25,000. These debt collectors took the money and ran because they no longer owned the debt they collected. Now, I still owe around $25,000 to all the credit card companies, etc. I learned the hard way! I have no recourse. I still owe the credit card companies.

Never give your bank account number out. Or..your SS# for that matter. No personal information!! There were a few debts I had that a CA cleed about. I told the CA I had arrangements with the OC. According to the CA, I had no such thing. They ( the CA) wanted my bank account and said that's the "only option I had." Yeah..right. I sent Moany Orders, for my payments, to the OC. I had the debt paid off ( the OC really worked with me with this). The CA, however, continues to say I never made a payment to the OC and I needed to pay them. MOST CA's can be scams..they just want money. I sent copies of the receipts, of my Moneyorders, to the CA. They said they never got them. The CA stopped calling some time ago.

My son moved out 5-6 yrs ago. He has never had T-mobile. He got a similar letter today saying the bill was $518.00 and to send 50% and they would accept. He is going to send a certified letter asking for the bill, account number, phone calling list and the date the debt was incurred. This is really bad they are doing this to people. Scares the heck out of you!

They CAN give out your SS# to other so-called companies..or, really..whoever they want. Or......god knows what. If they call again, don't answer the phone. Do you have Caller ID? Do they call with different numbers? When they called me, or sent a letter, they had 3 different numbers to "contact them." If you CAN get numbers off of your Caller ID, can you call your local police department? That may beable to 'trace' it somoehow.

This number called today. I will not answer any number on my caller id that does not have a name. These people let my phone ring for three minutes straight. I have not had any mail from them at this point, but this sounds like a bad bunch.

I would answer once. Verify you are the person they are looking for, verify your address and inform them they now have 5 days to send you the details of the account they are collecting on. Then end the call. If and when they mail you the initial dunning letter, respond with a debt validation (DV) request.

My parents just received the same kind of letter from the law offices of Mitchell N. Kay, offering a settlement on bogus debt on a T-Mobile account that does NOT exist. I am an attorney, and called them directly, asking to speak with Mr. Kay. The receptionist first forwarded me to a number that just rang and rang. When I called back, she gave me another number, which when I called only said, "You've reached the Law Offices of Mitchell N. Kay. Our offices are currently closed." with no voice mail options. I called the receptionist back again and asked for full her name and a fax number so that I could fax legal documents to their office, and she said she had to go and check about the fax number. When I asked, "you don't know that fax number?" she said she wasn't sure. She also refused to give her full name. Definitely seems to be a big scam, identity theft and all. I plan to file a law suit and also to file a complaint with the New York Bar Association.

Im glad I found you guys, Ive never heard of them so I did a little research while on the phone with them. Told them, "I'm reading an article about you guys." Then she hung up on me. So close to paying them too and all of them sound like people from India.

I received a phone call they were looking for "Leonardo"; when a "person" came on they were looking for someone else, when I said Leonardo didn't live at this number. When, I told them the other person did't live at this number either, it was, "oh, what's your name?". I told them to stop calling this number or I would be consulting someone for harrassment. Check out the bbb.org. They are not good people at all.

These people are a rip off. What happens is that if you have an OLD bad debt, and it's probably already been written off by the debtor (i.e., Sears), the debtor sell these old debts to collection agencies. The collection agencies in turn send out letters hoping that you will send them money. If your debt is over 7 years old, I believe it is unlawful for the original debtor to continue trying to collect the debt - they just write it off. But the collection agencies that buy this bad debt just fling mud against the wall and hope it will stick. Don't respond to them. Trash the letters.
