I have just went through a night mare dealing with this Agency. A year and a half ago, I went through a hard divorce and had a debt with Chase for $1200. I gave my ex power of attorney, because I was moving over to England to recoup from my divorce. While gone, a collection agency contacted my ex and agreed to go down to $800 if he paid $400, then $200 the next two months. He gave them $400, and then called him the next month to let them know his finances were low that month and wanted to know if he could pay the $200 a bit later than agreed. He then found out the debt went back to Chase and the new amount was back at $1200. He called them and they would not talk to him even though he had a power of attorney signed. Then I move back March of this year and a collection company contacts me with an agreed settlement of $675. I did not have work yet and ask them to lower it back to around $400 where the price should have been back at the original agreement. She said no it had to be $675. I asked her to email it to me, because I am not going to do verbal agreements anymore. I never got the email and did not have her contact info, so I was waiting for her to call me back. I then found a contract part time job to work evenings so I can care for my ill grandmother. I bring home $250 every two weeks. Well next thing I know I get a very harrassing call from a rep with MRS. She said since I work now, I can pay the entire debt! I explained it is part time and she would not listen to me. I then told her about the other debt company going to $675 and she would not do that either. She also called from a cell number. I told her good bye and hung up. She called the next day asking if I got her email, which I did not and she did not believe me. I thought maybe they have it written down wrong and that is why I never got any emails from her or the other debt company. She basically called me a lier and would not allow me to talk. I wanted to settle this....and she talked over me so I hung up and blocked her phone number. I tried to deal through Chase, but the executive office said it was out of their hands now. I called MRS today to talk to her supervisor since it was obvious I could not talk to the original lady. I got an Alex on the line and he would not listen to my situation. He said they will only go down to $860. I explained my living arrangements and lack of funds and he did not care....He kept reminding me that I was being recorded so I said yes and I am recording you too....he then got all jumpy and said I can not use my recording against them.....I said then I will put it on youtube....I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said he had none....that he was the manager over the entire department. I said then someone about that entire department will do....and he said their was no one....I then asked for my account number, he kept talking over me about numbers, I spoke over him asking for my account number and he hung up on me! I called back and spoke to Marcus who is a supervisor too....I was so frustrated....I explained to him I have a parttime job and only bring home $250 every two weeks....he would not go any lower than $860. I told him I am confused how another collection place could go to $675 and they cant...and I am barely able to live on what I have. He then said I could get a fulltime job!!!! I have an ill grandmother I have to care for during the days, and a parttime job to put food in my stomach.....I feel like they have me in a corner and don't care if I live in a home or in the streets. I finally agreed to pay $72 a month for 12 months....isn't there something that can protect me from them getting all that money from me when my paycheck is so low? Are there any rights out there for me or not?
