Northway Credit

Does anyone have any information on Northway Credit? I got a payday loan from another company, but this is the company that appears on my bank statement. I got a phone number from my bank and tried to contact them for about a week, because I knew that my payment would not clear, but couldn't reach the original creditor. What should I do?

Check your bank statement and see if it is Northway Debit. I have no idea about Northway Credit.

If it is Northway Debit in your bank statement, you must use your extreme caution. They are affiliated with Sonic Payday AKA Cash Transfer Centers.

Request your bank to block the transaction code of this company. Once this is done, the company won't be able to make further debits in your account.

Meanwhile, try to get in touch with the actual company and request for the latest standing of the loan account. Review the statement and plan your payments.

Thank you curlycarl for that info, I will get on it right away. I was wondering why you said to use extreme caution? Is there something I need to worry about?

Hi CindyLa

If the company in contact with you is Northway Debit, you have to be careful with them. They are actually related with Sonic Payday. This company was originally based in Canada and many laws were violated by them. Hence, they started lending in US without proper licensing. Sonic does not follow the legal procedure of lending in many US states. Be aware of the laws mentioned in the Truth In Lending Act and you will understand about their illegal activities.

Many here have got a refund from Sonic Payday. The consumers were charged excessive interest rates and fees. You first need to confirm the name of the company you are dealing with. If it is Northway Debit, we will help you out from that point. Don't worry!

After a lot of digging I found out that it is Northway Debit that extracted the money. And Northway Credit that made the deposit for Cash Transfer Centers (that was the company I had the on-line loan with). I just got a call telling me to pay the total loan, plus fees ($566.00)by 6:00 Monday (June 5)by Money Gram. I wanted to try and work out a payment plan but was told they didn't do that. I won't have the money by then, and I told them that. What's next. I am going to call my bank to see if they will put a hold on the ID Code, but what else can I do. By the way, I live in Indiana. Thank you so much for your help.

Don't pay anything more than the usury laws of your state. Have a look at this link for the payday loan regulations in Indiana. You must pay within the permissible interest rates and fees. Northway Debit has caught others with excessive charges. Now, they are refunding back some of the customers. Be proactive while you are dealing with them.

Thanks Gretchin for that link. I am printing it out now. The information from this forum has been very helpful. Since I know I won't have $566 by Monday @ 6:00, how soon will I be sent to collections, since they won't work with me to make partial payments?

In general, the accounts are sent to collections after 90 days past due. I am not sure about this company since they have tie ups with CA's not having good online reputation. You must cover your basis by documenting everything. In the rarest situation, if the matter reaches the court, you will be able to prove your side of the story.

CindyLa, I am from Indiana too and Im dealing with Cash Transfer Centers. Out of all my payday lenders, they are the only one who s giving me such huge problems. They refused to cooperate, refused to arrange payments, and they kept harassing me. They threatened to garnish my paychecks.

I plan to send them a payment I can afford and see if they will accept. If they did, then surely they can do payment arrangements. They are just playing hardballs and want ALL money upfront.

The only problem is where do I send the money?

When dealing with Sonic, Cash Transfer Centers, Northway Debit, E-Care Centers you have to be strong and hold your ground and let them know that they are not going to get away with their threats. Send them the wage revocation letter certified mail with return receipt and give the employer a copy. As we all have found out that their wage assignment means nothing.
They have so many bogus addresses it is hard to find a correct address. Do not send them anything by money gram or western union. According to the AG in my state, I didnt have to send anything out of the US.

Thanks Tammy for that helpful information. Do I get the wage revocation letter from my employer? How soon will they start harrassing me? I tried to get the bank to block their ACH ID, but was told that I couldn't do anything until they actually try to debit money from my account, only then I can file dispute and have their ACH ID blocked. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Cindyla, I had an account with CTC and they started harassing me few days after I defaulted (never mind that I did call prior to the due date to arrange payments, they would not hear of it). They demanded I pay up front or they will "garnish" my paychecks. To make long story short, I got my local police involved and they ceased from harrassing me. I have no idea what the Lt. said but they did not bother me once since then. Lt. told me he reported the company to my state Attorney General because of his converstation with the E-CARE customer service, he found them very shady and evasive of his questions.

As for the wage revocation letter, you do not need to get it from your employer. You can write one now and send it off to the company.

My bank did the same. I was not able to do anything until they actually tried to debit my account. They did so I filed a dispute, got charges reversed back to my account, and closed the account.

This is one heck of a shady company I ever had to deal with. Out of all payday lenders, they were pretty much the only ones who would not cooperate in payment arrangements.

You will be able to design a wage revocation letter after reading this page.

Remember to send this letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. Send a copy to the company as well as to your employer. Money should not be deducted from your paycheck after receiving this letter.

Does anyone have an address for Northway Debit? I want to send that letter as soon as possible. Also, I've decided to close that account but I have to open a new one because of my direct deposit; would that be considered fraud? Do I need to contact my other PDL companies and tell them about my new account, or should I just try and make other payment arrangements with them so that I can slowly get out of debt? I am in this vicious cycle of PDLs and I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am so stressed out that I can't sleep. Although the PDLs helped me out in my time of need, I will never do it again. I just figured out why I can't pay my other bills; most of my pay goes to PDLs. That is a horrible way to live. I hope someone reading this and thinking of using a PDL think twice about it, because it is not worth it. Thanks for letting me get some of this off my chest. I kind of feel a little better.

CindyLa, I know how exactly you must feel. You are not alone in this. We are in this together and this forum is a great place to vent about our debt dilemmas.

I have lost some weight due to lack of sleep and nervous stomach. All the bills were becoming late due to my paychecks being constantly taken over by PDLs fees. I had no choice but to close the account after I tried to work out some arrangments with some PDLs. Some were willing to work out but some did not so I had to close. It felt so good to finally have some control of finances back. You will see the light at the end of tunnel, just hang in there and we are all here to help. Smile
