Hi Htgt123

Welcome to the forums.

OSI is a collection agency having branches in different parts of United States.

Do you mind posting the good news here?

Regards
Roxette

I didn't call him back to find out what the good news was. He just stated that he had good news for me. The phone call was really scratchy and hard to hear. I new it wasn't true. I believe this is a new tactic of collection agencies. He didn't state what company he was from or anything like that. That is why I came to this site first to ask. You guys are awesome and the information is so helpful.

I was a bit in a surprise that OSI having some good news for you. Lots of complaints are posted against them. If your accounts have been paid as per your request and in true sense, I would have definitely spread the word.

Htgt123, I know that you will be cautious while dealing with them. Please do all your correspondence in writing and do not get intimidated. They will try to bully you but you are aware of your consumer rights as per the fdcpa law.

Best wishes

OSI purchases junk debts of the consumers that are out of the SOL period. They try to offer settlement on such debts by re-aging the accounts. They also misreport the 'open date' and 'date of last activity' on an account. Apart from that, harsh and abusive language is a part of their collection activity. All of these actions are a violation of the fdcpa laws.

  • When they call you up, do not get the feeling that you are doing the wrong thing. Stick to what you are saying and feel that they are violating your rights.

  • Keep all the letters of correspondence, account statements in safe place.

  • Until your debt has been validated, never update your contact information with them. Do not arrange a payment plan before you get the true picture of your debt.

  • Also, keep checking your credit report regularly.

  • If you wish to take any legal actions against a company, make sure that you hire an attorney that specializes in lawsuits for FDCPA and FCRA violations.

And if you have any queries, remember to get it discussed here before you make any decision. Very Happy

Regards
Roxette

Thank for the information. It is very helpful. I am assuming this is for a payday loan, since credit cards deal with more prestigious collection agencies.

You need to be very cautious while dealing with any type of collection agencies. It does not matter much if the debt has been sold by a credit card company or a payday loan company. The real important thing is that they should work under the laws of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Best wishes

PostPosted: Wed Oct 19, 2005 9:09 am Subject: Update with OSI

So I called this morning and it for a Citibank Credit Card. The gentleman I talked to, was named Jesse Schade. He wasn't to bad to deal with. But was very anxious to get a payment today. But I told him I needed to validate the debt and he stated it was sent on Sept 23, 2005. But I can't find anything yet. He wanted a whole bunch of information and I wouldn't give it to him. I told him I would call back by Friday after I reviewed the information. I asked for there fax number but he wouldn't give that to me either.

Hi Htgt123

Do not make payment arrangements until the debt has been completely validated from their end. You need to know the actual amount on which you are paying. Ask them the address on which they have sent you the debt validation letter on Sept 23, 2005. But if the address is not updated, don't do it until it gets validated.

I am sure that as long as you are willing to pay this debt, they won't be able to harm you in anyway.

Regards
Roxette

Citibank is the company that refused the proposal with my debt consolidator. Yeah I wouldn't do anything until you validate that debt. And the only reason he is so anxious to get money is because they get paid based on how much they collect.
