Can you give me any feedback on credit repair companies that are run by law firms. Do you feel they are a good choice or has anyone had any favorable experiences with them?

Most of the credit repair companies claim that they will be able to remove correct negative marks like bankruptcy. This is not right. According to FCRA correct negative info cannot be deleted from your report.
Credit repair companies use some loop holes of law to remove these entries and charge a high payment, but these entries can be re-inserted if your creditor verifies it in future.
If your credit report has some correct negative entries, you can still raise your credit score high by maintaining a good credit habit. And the incorrect entries can be removed by your own effort as well. However, if you wish to go for credit repair service do some research on the company first.

The company is Ovation Law, they are listed with the Better Business Bureau. Is anyone familiar with their services?

help03-I am doing mine on my own. Theres nothing that a credit repair company can do, that you can't do yourself and save money. It takes alot of patience, time and hard work though but it can be done. If it 'can' be cleaned up--as far as duplicate accounts, accounts that aren't yours and so forth, you can do that yourself. I've heard that the credit repair people just throw alot of letters to the credit bureaus until they're so confused, they end up taking it off and like Stan stated, once the agency reports to the bureau again, its right back on the report and you've flushed your money down the toliet. I've been working on mine myself and actually see it as a challenge. I have gotten several things off and cleaned my husbands report up quite a bit. But if the accounts are in fact yours, the only way to clean it up, is to pay it. Theres no way around that unless it falls off due to the SOL. As I said, I've done the same thing for myself that a credit repair company could do and saved myself some bucks.

The company mentioned by help is a BBB member and holding satisfactory customer experience with BBB till date.
Shirley has been trying to shape up her credit and she has succeeded as well. I agree that it takes huge time and you have to hold your patience too.
Disputing credit report can be done online as well. View the video prepared by Debt Consolidation Care on how to dispute credit report-

However, if you still decide to go with a credit repair company, select a good one. Hope some other members who have dealt with the aforementioned company will help you with some more information. Keep us posted.

i was with Lexington Law few years ago, they removed a BK that was about 7 years old and updated a few late payments..You send in the disputes on there website. As far as the letters go it dont matter, the bureaus have to dispute your claim no matter if u wrote it or u consent to a third party to write your disputes- Both Ovation Lsw and Lexington Law have good ratings.I never used Ovation but i have read good reviews .. If want to delete a BK or a Chargeoff i would go with a credit repair law firm, cause the BUREAUS will not make it easy- If you go about it on by yourself draft your own letters,do not dispute thru the BUREAUS website, why? they wont let you dispute one item more than twice-

I have been a client with lexington since 6-06, however, they have removed 13 negatives, which by the way never turned back up, but lately I see them really starting to slow it down.....i'm thinking this is a effort to keep getting my $90 a month....I may just take over for myself and bank my $90

I have a very bad experience with credit repair companies......most of them are illegitimate and scams..they will promise you that they can do a quick fix to your ailing score, but the truth is their sole concern is to vanish away with your money. I think repairing on own is a much better option than seeking help from these so called credit repair companies.

Most places are scams. But, like anything else in this world, there are a few places that actually do what they guarantee to do. When I was looking for a credit repair place a couple years back, I came across a great article that laid out the things to look for:
1--the company must have a guarantee. It is illegal to guarantee that any item will be removed, but it is NOT illegal to guarantee a credit score, and any legitimate company will do that.
2--the company MUST offer monthly payments.
3--the company itself will acknowledge that you can do this yourself. This is key, because I didn't want someone who lied and said I couldn't do it myself. The company I used described it as getting my oil changed...people CAN do it themselves, but most people don't want to do it themselves, and they want it done right and will pay more for someone else to do it.
The company I ended up using is called United Credit Source. I can't put the link in here, but search for it. They were very straightforward with me, and I had great results with them. Hope this helps.
