Ross,
If a judgement is won against u, a number of things can happen. They can garnish ur wages, if app in ur state, put a lien on ur property, freeze ur bank accts and levy any assests u may have. Also, this will stay on ur credit report for a long time to come and hurt ur scores tremendously.
Hope this helps u some,
Ang
P.S. Also a CA can sue u for this debt, doesn't have to be OC.

All of a sudden i am experiencing a try for collection on an old acct thst is 10 yrs old at least and is really not my debt as it is the debt of my x when we got divorced 10 yrs ago, I am not sure I have seen this on my credit report, I have a couple of negitive things, and one judgement from long ago and this is part of divorce as well, it is due to dissapear soon, I do not know who these guys are, wolpoff & Abramson, but I think the are full of it. I have pleanty of good credit, and could care less if they are after me, i have no assets, I am a server , and do not receive a paycheck and do not have a checking acct. I deal in cash only and have since my divorce, I pay my credit cards with cash and my Ins with cash, my rent in cash, and my car is paid for and is 10 yrs old, not worth much, I did send them a letter or e-mail in response to the attempt to collect over 3 grand, I have no idea what this is, and I have a strong suspicion that this acct was charged off a long time ago, it is my understanding that it is illeagle to try to collect on something that has been charged off, should I worry about them??

They already have your SS# since they are going to go after your credit. They use ist as a tracker. I finallyt had my case thrown out in court today after 2 years of asking for debt validation. What I have learned is that you should ask them to validate the debt and require that if they have not done so within 30 days to stop all actions to the Credit Agencies. If they do not they are in violation of the FCRA and you need to file a claim in couurt against them immediately.

My son just got a ca stating he owes them money for an acct. that purchased from Great Seneca, that was purchased from Citibank-TOTAL CONSUMER NON-FEE and that he owes a to of over $1,000.00 but if paid within 20 days he gets a 50% discount. He hasn't lived here in over 5 years. He had financial problems over 2 years ago but everything was taken care of, now this. How do you check to see if this is legal or just a scam? HELP THIS CONCERNED MOTHER!

marty28, Just ignore them....i was served also....as far as my credit goes....not really concerned. It's already wasted, so not much more they can do to hurt it.... If your credit is still in good standing, i would definetely find out what it's about and get it taken c/o. I think the court thing is yet just 1 more scare tactic... it's most likely disputable.Good Luck! [/i][/b]

Watson, You can contact them in writing,or by contacting one of the 3 credit bureaus, if it appears on your credit. The address that I have is as follows:Palisades Collection LLC,210 Sylvan Ave.,Englewood Cliffs,NJ. 07632. Sorry, I don't have the phone #! But if you read through this blog, I'm pretty sure you will find it...

If you were served a summons do not ignore it! If you do they will receive a default judgment. get yourself a attorney, I would suggest one from naca.net
Ask the attorney about including debt validation during the discovery process.

I'm guessing your the guest that told Marty to ignore the summons. If that is the case I would wager that you work for Palisades. It would be a typical dirty tactic used by someone from there. We are educating consumers on this site, watch out.
