Hi Carol, so great to see you here!
You said that capital one paid the debt off and you had already sent PALISADES a copy of the cancelled check to prove it was paid? You obviously took this matter to capital one and asked them about it, and got the cancelled check, correct?

What I would do if I were in your shoes, if this were me. I would write Palisades another letter, explaining that this account has been paid off, add a copy of the cancelled check. And add on a cease and desist into the letter. Tell them to cease contact with you on this matter, that it has been paid and taken care of and you want no more contact from them. Then send this certified/return receipt.
I know you said you wrote and sent a copy of the cancelled check, but I would do it again, add in the cease and desist so they will stop calling your home, and make sure its sent certified return receipt. Keep a copy of all of this for your records in case you need to prove something later on. Hope this has helped. someone else here might have a better idea, this is just what I would do if I were if it were me. Shirley

Hi Carol,

I will also do the same things suggested by Shirley if I were in your place. Basically, dealing with collection agencies especially like Palisades is not an easy task. You need to be cautious at every step and be aware of the legal avenues that can be brought into action if needed.

Just like Shirley said, put every correspondence in writing and save a copy of it in a folder. Also, since Palisades has no legitimate purpose to contact you, you will like to get the phone calls recorded if it sounds harassing. You must check the statutes in your state and see if you are allowed to record the calls secretly.

After sending the cease and desist letter, Palisades will violate the fdcpa if they call you and recording of the phone call will serve as a legal proof for you. You might have to look for some attorney dealing with the FDCPA lawsuits.

Monica, ask your friend to send a cease and desist letter as she is nowhere related in this debt account you have with them. Once the cease and desist letter is received by them, Palisades must not call her again otherwise it will be a violation of the fdcpa.

This is exactly why I don't call---they make your life a living hell. I do all my communicating through written correspondence only and even then, you still have some that want to ignore your cease letter. I wrote a CA last week and wanted to make sure that they were going to report my debt as 'paid' on CR before paying and now they're calling me every day, when I made it plan as day, I wanted NO PHONE CALLS. I approached them over this debt and now they think they can start harrassing me. think again. shirley

If there is a real need to talk to the collection agency, there is a risk that they will get your phone number from their caller ID. So, the best way to tackle this situation is to call from a pay phone. This way, your personal phone# is safe and also dealt with the person concerned.

YEP you're right David, cause they'll sure enough drive you nuts constantly calling! I made the mistake a couple of years back, using my cell phone to call a number back. I was trying to find out who it was and hung up. They called me back the next day. Lucky for me though, I told them it was my cell phone and NOT to call it again. They respected me on it. People need to learn that they have caller IDs and even if you call from you grandmas house or the next door neighbor, they will mark it down as the number that you used to call. It doesn't matter that its not your name on the caller ID, they still associate that number with you and will continue to call until stopped. shirley

Default wrong account

Hi there. I have been getting calls daily from Palisades Collection trying to get payment from someone who is not me, and whom I don't even know. I tried to get the call blocked, but to no avail. I tried to call, but an automated voice asked for my social security number. No way!!! Anyone have any advice?

Send them a full cease comm letter CMRRR. If they call again after receiving it, sue them for $500 per call under the TCPA

Default Getting through to a live body - Palisades Collection

Palisades has been calling our home phone for the last two months about every other day asking for a person we don't know but that has the same last name. I tried many times to call the number they gave but they won't connect you to an agent. I did a Google search and found this site. I called the number in PA (800) 873-5648. They same message started so I entered a "0" to try and get to an operator. I went to another recording and asked for my nine digit SS #, no way. So I entered nine "0"'s, it worked, I got through to an agent. Told her what was going on and she said she deleted our number from the account, we'll see.
