Actually the company you should be mad at is the department store that sold them the account. Send them a copy of your final statement showing a zero balance or a copy of a letter from the department store stating the account is paid and they will return the account to the orginal creditor.

I had a Walmart card go there faxed them my final statement, they apologized, removed their tradeline and never called again.

I had an experience with Paragon Way a few years ago. I had a debt that went to collection status and was placed with them - I had no problems making payment arrangments and getting them paid off. The payment arrangement went on for several months, and when I ran into trouble making the payment a couple of times, I simply called them and told them, and we worked out an alternate arrangement. I found them very easy to work with.

Just my $0.02

Nearly 6 years ago, I did payday loans. However, I know for a fact I had paid any and all, (considering I have never heard of this prior to last month)last month I checked my credit report, saw this company put in a dispute as it gave no information to what they were. Now i have recieved a letter stating that it was a payday loan. doesnt give the date, I will be requesting information validating the debt, but I know I paid for any and all payday loans I had ever taken out. Mainly because they said they could deposit my check. I wont lie, I dont have any paperwork backing this up, It was my stupid days and i didnt keep records of things. And I am talking about paragon way. What amazes me is that is says interest is 3.56 cents. This is the first Ive ever seen of this, as well as this would have to have been back from 5 to 6 years ago. *you would think there was more interest* I smell nothing but a scam. Any ideas?

The only thing I have to say is this.If you borrow money you need to pay it back at some point in time down the line. Ask the people who are trying to purchase a home. To the people who claim they have paid their debt provide documentation. The bottom line is this if people would pay their debts then they would not be in collections!and would not be getting the collection calls in the first place.Rather you took the loan out 3 years ago it does not matter yall need to be responsible and take care of your debts and you would not have people like us calling your house in the firts place.People are complaining about the represenatives saying we are rude. Whatever! It's not our fault your in collections!

You said that you have been on disability since 2000 thats not a excuse not to pay your debt back. You borrowed the money am I right!so you should do the right thing and pay the money back. When you signed that contract with whatever company you borrowed from you said that you was going to pay them back! And your wondering why collectors are calling your house.

Ms Y....thank you for your insight into the collection industry - you're obviously an insider there. If you have constructive suggestions to assist our community members with debt problems, we welcome those suggestions here.

The majority of people that come to this site truly want to get out of debt and pay their bills on time, but have run into some difficulty along the way - job loss, layoffs, illness of self or family, etc. We're not losers, con men, criminals or the scum of the earth. We are simply people (like you) who have somehow gotten behind the 8-ball and are trying to get back out again. We have all come here seeking help, or to offer assistance to others.

I realize it's not your fault that the people you call are in collections. And it's quite likely that you're only here to sound off and say the things you can't on the phone. That's fine - but please understand that the very people you are criticizing for being in debt and in collections are the ones who, by means of paying their debt off to a collection agency, rather than the original creditor, are providing your paycheck.

Do your customers want to be in collections? No. Do they have a choice? Of course. Paying bills on time is something everyone wants to do. No one wants to be in debt or receive phone calls from a collection agency - especially one that violates fdcpa by being threatening the people they call, or one that is rude. Please consider the words you place here, and how you treat your customers....one day you may be on the other end of the phone when a collection agency calls.

SueBeeHoney70 Yes, I have received collection calls. And I'm like this I know that I borrowed the money so therefore I paid it back. I'ts hard to get the things you want when you have negative marks on your credit. I'm not trying to criticizie anyone I undertand things do happen but, lets be realistic people taking out loans in 2003 and its now 2007. It should not take 4-5 years for them to pay the money back. So, if you loaned somebody money in good faith under the pretense that they were going to pay you back, your saying that you would not want your money back at some point in time.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all. But your post was pretty inflammatory, and attacked someone who said they had been on disability since 2000 - you spoke as though you know the details behind their debt. From what I saw, the person posting didn't say what type of debt they had - only that they had a collection agency calling them for 2 months and that they had been on disability since 2000.

If the debtor had the means to pay the debt back, then yes, they should have done so, and if they make payment arrangements based on their income, they may still be able to come out of this situation.

Many people come to this site for help when they receive collection calls and don't know how to handle them. That's why we're here - to help. You won't see us telling people NOT to pay their bills, or to ignore collection calls. What you WILL see are posts advising people to obtain debt validation prior to agreeing to make payments on a debt if they are not sure it's valid. You'll also see us congratulating people when they are able to pull themselves out of debt.

I never have borrowed any money! I lost my job May of 2000 and was evicted! I want to pay it back but in 2001 was injured and disabled and been on SS ever since then. I cannot work! They will not accept $5 or $10 a month. (The Apt. company) Do not know what Paragon Way wants however. Should I call them and find out?
