I went out today, came back to a message on my answering machine. It was automated and it said my husbands name. They gave me a phone number to call and a number to reference. They didn't say who they were, so I called the number back. I got an answering machine. It identified the number as being 'Professional Credit management, Inc.". I hung us, as I just wanted to see who they were.

I was wondering if this is a collection agency or people that help you with your financial problems? As far as I know, I haven't dealt with them or know what they want. anyone here know? thanks, shirley

Hi Shirley,
How are you today? Hope you must be keeping a good a health. And how is your DH? Ask him sometimes to come on the board! He will feel good about you being here with us.
Professional Credit Management is a collection agency that might be contacting you for a past debt. The chief of the company is Ms. Karen Dixon. Here is the address to contact them.
Professional Credit Management, Inc.
P.O. Box 4037
Jonesboro, AR 72403
Phone Number: (870) 932-7030
Fax Number: (870) 932-2612
Although this company is not a member of BBB, but they have a good track record with the consumers. Any type of complaints submitted by the bureaus has been resolved by this collection agency. However, you have to deal with them in practical terms and share your experience with us. I pray that you have a positive outcome.
Regards
Roxette

Okay--tonight I will search through my 'open' collection folder (the accounts that are unsettled because of non response to validation requests)--one wells fargo account--and the Dell accounts and see if that 'reference' number they left on my answering machine, means anything.
Also, I've never had a collection agency just call me like that, not without FIRST sending me something through the mail. I don't like dealing with these people over the phone, especially when I don't know up front what its about. I might be caught off guard. Like what if it concerns one of these accounts that they keep playing hot potato with? every time I ask for validation, they pass it on.
So---should I wait to get something in the mail? OR go ahead and drop them a line, explain that I got their message on my machine and that we are no phone calls kind of people, so send anything to us through the mail?
Thanks for the info Roxette!!!! shirley
hubby is a truckdriver, that's what he does best and doesn't get on the computer...but he does have me look up stuff for him. I'm the computer geek in the house. LOL!!! he does know about the group and all of you--hes amazed sometimes at how much I know and have learned. =)

It's preferred to stay away from collection agencies over the phone especially with those who don't identify themselves properly. If you call them, they need to prove first that they have got the right person, right amount, and have the legal rights to collect in your state.
Apart, you can send a DV letter through Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested and request for the account info.

Great, because I didn't want to call them anyways, and prefer to do it through the mail and written correspondence only. I would think that after they call a few times and don't get us, they would send something through the mail anyways, but I'll go ahead and head it off by writing them, to find out what its about. no surprises that way. If its one of the accounts that keeps getting passed around, it would be awkward to speak about it over the phone and I might find myself in a position that I don't want to be in. This way, everything is documented. Thanks Roxette!! shirley

If the agency places the calls at regular intervals, you can shoot a C&D letter with preference to contact only through mail.

They are a collection agencey out of Arkansas with offices in Mountain Home and Jonesboro. I have dealt with this company from both ends. Both as a debtor and from my work at a vet clinic - with non-paying accounts. IMO they were very nice as a debtor and based on that experience, I chose them to send our collections accounts to.

Thank you for the info!!!!! And I really appreciate knowing that if I do have to deal with them (provided that this is my debt and they can validate), that they are really nice to get along with. THats important. so thanks for passing that on to me!
Roxette, I was wondering about something---If I drop them a line first, approaching them to find out why they're calling my home, does that need to be certified-return receipt???? It wouldn't be until the next letter, that I would be asking for validation. Thanks!!! shirley

Shirley, you can mention this point in the DV letter. Tell them that you refuse to be contacted until the details of the accounts has been sent and prefer to be contacted only through mail. This way, they will be restricted from calling you at your home phone.

I haven't heard back from these people, just the one phone call, so I have no idea what this is about. But if I start right off with hitting them with a validation request,I may never know what its about. If my track record proves me right, I ask for validation and never hear back from them again. I am curious about what account they are holding.
But I guess if everything is legit, I will hear back from them, if not, it doesn't matter anyways, right.

As long as the company is not trying to tarnish your credit report further, you can sit back. But you need to take actions if they have reported negatively on your file. Check your latest credit file and see if the company has updated your accounts.
As you are not hearing from the company for a long time, a dispute with the CRA must give you positive results by this time.

well, I got 'verification' in the mail today. Kinda strange how the letter goes. It almost looks like court papers but is a 'verified statement of account for arkansas methodist med center'.
Then it says 'duly sworn states on oath that all matters , figures and things contained in the foregoing verified statement of account are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.... then signed by an agent of the hospital before a notary republic.
Then at the very bottom on this same page it says 'this communication is from a debt collector'. two more pages are attached but its only the verification.
No where does it have the collectors name on this anywheres or where to mail the money to or anything. I went over it a few times and nothing but verification of a hospital visit.
Looked on the outside of the envelope and no name only address but its the address of the above collection agency that Roxette gave me the info on.
If I didn't know this from Roxette telling me, I would have no idea who these people are and they state it no where in the letter. They didn't list their agency anywhere in the paperwork.
so should I write them back and ask who this is from for sure and who to make the check out to? or just send the check?
thanks shirley
